WACO, Texas – The Slippery Rock University football team climbed two more places to No. 20 in the NCAA Division II national rankings after the American Football Coaches Association released its updated national poll Monday.
Â
The first ranked order set of NCAA Regional Rankings will be unveiled later in the day Monday, which will be the only rankings that matter in terms of determining which eight teams from each of the four Super Regions will qualify for the NCAA Playoffs.
Â
The Rock extend their ranked streak that began 2,513 days ago and have now been nationally ranked in every poll released since the final poll of the 2018 season.
Â
Slippery Rock has now climbed five spots over the last three weeks and cracks the top 20 again after a strong showing in a 42-23 win over Clarion last Saturday in which the offense racked up 252 rushing yards and 481 total yards while the defense limited Clarion to its second lowest scoring output of the season.
Â
The top five spots in this week's poll were unchanged. Defending national champion Ferris State remained atop the poll with all 31 first place votes, while Harding remained second, West Florida remained third, Kutztown stayed at No. 4. and Augustana (S.D.) stayed at No. 5.
Â
The rest of the top 10 this week includes No. 6 Colorado State-Pueblo, No. 7 Central Washington, No. 8 Pittsburg State, No. 9 Findlay and No. 10 Virginia Union.
Â
Kutztown and Slippery Rock remain the only two PSAC teams to be ranked in the top 25 this week and have been the only PSAC teams ranked in each poll this season. Indiana (Pa.) and California (Pa.) are both listed in the "Others Receiving Votes" section of the poll to give the PSAC four total teams mentioned this week with three coming from the PSAC West.
Â
No. 10 Virginia Union of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and No. 18 Johnson C. Smith of the CIAA combine with Kutztown and Slippery Rock and No. 24 Assumption from the Northeast-10 Conference to round out the five Super Region One teams in this week's top 25. Assumption jumped into the poll this week to become the first NE-10 team in the rankings this fall.
Â
Frostburg State of the Mountain East Conference and Bentley from the NE-10 join Indiana (Pa.) and California (Pa.) as the only four teams from Super Region One to be listed in the "Others Receiving Votes" section of this week's poll.
Â
Slippery Rock will have to beat one of the top three teams in the PSAC West standings for the third straight week if it hopes to keep its NCAA Playoff streak alive. The Rock will close the divisional portion of the PSAC schedule Saturday with a noon game at Edinboro, which enters the game 5-4 overall but 4-1 in PSAC West games, tied with IUP atop the division standings. If IUP were to lose at Clarion, the winner of the SRU and Edinboro game would claim the division title and head to Kutztown for the PSAC Championship Nov. 15.

A look at the updated AFCA national poll can be found below. This week's D2football.com poll is available HERE and does not include any PSAC teams other than Kutztown this week.
