LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University running back
JayJay Jordan was named Monday as the Western Division Offensive Athlete of the Week when the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its weekly football honors.
Â
Jordan, a junior from Reading, Pennsylvania, picks up his second PSAC Athlete of the Week award this season for his performance in The Rock's 42-23 win over Clarion Saturday.
Â
He opened the game with a 67-yard touchdown run on the first offensive play for SRU and closed his day with 176 rushing yards (9.9 yards per carry) and 13 receiving yards for a game-high 189 all-purpose yards. The 67-yard TD run marked the second straight game that Jordan has broken off a long touchdown on the first SRU offensive play of the game after he also scored on a 75-yard scamper against IUP.
Â
Jordan now has three touchdown runs of at least 60 yards on the season and five TD runs of 40 or more yards. He leads the PSAC in every rushing category and in all-purpose yardage with 1,167 rushing yards in just eight games, making him the first SRU running back since Wes Hills in 2018 to top 1,000 yards in a season.
Â
Jordan currently ranks No. 2 among all players in Division II in all-purpose yards per game (193.8). He ranks third nationally in rushing yards per carry (8.6) and rushing yards per game (145.9) and ranks fourth in total rushing yards (1,167) despite playing one less game than all but one other player in the top 10.
Â
No. 22 Slippery Rock kept both its NCAA Playoff and PSAC West title hopes alive with the win over Clarion and will have to earn another tough win Saturday at Edinboro to keep those hopes alive. Indiana (Pa.) controls its own destiny and can win the Western Division with a win on the road at Clarion Saturday. If the Hawks slip up in that game, the winner of the SRU at Edinboro game would claim the West title and advance to the PSAC title game to face No. 3 Kutztown Nov. 15.
Â
Kickoff at Edinboro Saturday is set for noon.
