Rock drops road match at Seton Hill

The Slippery Rock volleyball team lost a PSAC West road match at Seton Hill in three sets (25-16, 26-24, 25-17) Saturday.

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division road match at Seton Hill University in three sets (25-16, 26-24, 25-17) Saturday.

Following the loss, Slippery Rock's record drops to 9-14 overall and 2-8 in league contests while the host Griffins improve to 13-9 overall and 5-5 in the PSAC West.

Freshman Emry Rumbaugh continued her strong rookie year with an eight-kill, two-block showing. The duo of Lauren VonderHaar and Gwen McCarthy chipped in six kills apiece as well with VonderHaar, who broke SRU's career blocks record earlier in the weekend, adding five more rejections (three solo / two assisted) to her name. The senior standout also served two aces.

Callie Chevalier and Ava Haynes rounded out The Rock's leading attackers with five and four kills, respectively.

Setters Paityn Krause and Jaeden Yost guided the offense with 29 total assists (Krause 15 / Yost 14). Yost also made 10 digs for the double-double day. Arielle Walter led SRU in digs with 14.

The Griffins held advantages over The Rock in total kills (43-34), attack percentage (.069-.223), digs (63-56) and total blocks (11-7). Both teams served four aces.

A 9-0 Seton Hill run midway through the first set led to a 25-16 Griffin victory in the opener. SRU and SHU played their way to a 23-23 tie in the second set before a VonderHaar kill put The Rock in a set-point situation. However, Seton Hill rallied with a pair of kills sandwiched around a Rock attack error for a 26-24 win.

Seton Hill used another sizable run with eight consecutive points at the end of the third set to finish out the match via a 25-17 deciding victory.

The Griffins were led by Elizabeth Kolkowski's 16 kills in the win.

Slippery Rock returns to Morrow Field House for the final time in 2025 to host Pitt-Johnstown 6 p.m. Nov. 7 on Senior Day followed by a 2 p.m. Nov. 8 home finale versus IUP.
