SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team got back in the win column with a 3-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan University Wednesday in a non-conference game from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Rock improve to 3-1 at home this fall and 4-6 overall with the victory, while the Redhawks slip to 4-5 on the year.

Slippery Rock jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back on the way to the shutout win.

Maddie Orrson opened the scoring with her second goal of the season when she took a feed from
Roz Mikulak and flipped it over the keeper in the 12th minute for the opening goal. SRU added to the advantage just over two minutes later when
Grace Williams scored off a rebound from a shot by
Coral Piramo to make it 2-0 with 1:17 to play in the first.

Williams tacked on a second goal in the 37th minute when she took a feed from
Julia Boettler in front of the net and dribbled home the third and final goal of the game.

The Rock outshot Roberts Wesleyan 20-2 in total shots and 13-0 in shots on goal while also posting a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Emily Newton was credited with the win and the shutout in goal for SRU, while Avery Richardson took the loss for Roberts Wesleyan after recording 10 saves.

Slippery Rock will look to keep its home momentum going when No. 6 Bloomsburg visits Saturday for a 1 p.m. PSAC game.
