Rock drops PSAC tilt to No. 6 Bloomsburg

The Slippery Rock field hockey team lost to No. 6 Bloomsburg, 5-1, Saturday in PSAC competition at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Madison Shomo scored SRU’s goal on a Sammy Graci assist.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost to No. 6 Bloomsburg University, 5-1, Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference competition at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
 
The conference setback moves The Rock's record to 4-7 overall and 0-4 inside the PSAC, while the nationally ranked Huskies improve to 11-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
 
Slippery Rock was led on the day by the duo of Madison Shomo and Sammy Graci. Shomo earned her second goal of the year while Graci set up the strike with an assist – her first of the year and second of her career.
 
Roz Mikulak placed four of her team-best five total shots on target. Grace Williams produced four attempts as well, two of which were on goal. Shomo, Riley Cloude, Megan Rude and Christina Clymer tallied one shot apiece to round out SRU's offensive leaders.
 
Rock goalkeeper Leah Riegling stopped four shots over 60 minutes in what was her fifth start of 2025.
 
Bloomsburg scored the game's first four goals with one tally in the first quarter, two more in the second and another in the third.
 
SRU avoided the shutout when Graci found Shomo in front of a congested cage for a goal in the 58th minute before the Huskies added a final goal in the 59th minute to close out the 5-1 win.
 
For the game, Bloomsburg held advantages over The Rock in total shots (14-13) and shots on goal (9-8). Both teams were awarded eight penalty corners. Genna Bush and Jessica Serafin scored two goals each to pace the Huskies.
 
Slippery Rock hosts Frostburg State University 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium as part of its annual Morgan's Message Game.
