Rock begins homestand against Gannon

The Slippery Rock men’s soccer team will begin a three-game homestand, it’s longest of the season, at James Egli Field against PSAC West foe Gannon 4 p.m. Wednesday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team will begin a three-game homestand, it's longest of the season, at James Egli Field against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division foe Gannon University 4 p.m. Wednesday.
 
Slippery Rock owns a 3-4-1 record overall with a 1-1-0 PSAC West mark, while Gannon holds a 3-2-3 overall record and is 1-0-1 in the PSAC West.

Fans are reminded that there are NO PETS allowed at James Egli Field or in any SRU Athletics facilities. Please do not bring dogs or any other pets to the game. Unless they are a registered service animal, you will be asked to remove your pet from the facility.

SERIES HISTORY
Slippery Rock and Gannon first played in 1968, resulting in a 6-0 Rock victory. The two teams have played each other 49 times over the past 56 years. Slippery Rock owns a 23-23-3 record all-time and a 10-12-3 record at home against Gannon. Last year, SRU went 0-1-1 against the Golden Knights. The Rock earned a 1-1 draw at James Egli Field with Gannon ranked at No. 15. This will be the first time Slippery Rock will play an unranked Gannon team since 2022. With a win, The Rock would earn their first victory over the Golden Knights since 2015.

LAST TIME OUT
Slippery fell on the road in PSAC West action to Seton Hill University Oct. 4, 3-1.
 
Kaden Reynolds scored the lone goal for SRU. The sophomore from Mount Albert, Ontario led The Rock with two shots and one on goal.
 
Gabin LonjardPatrick Tierney and Zsombor Retfalvi all registered one shot for The Rock, with Lonjard putting his shot on goal.

HOME SWEET HOME
Slippery Rock have enjoyed the confines of James Egli Field as it holds a 3-1-0 record at home this season. Under Slippery Rock head coach Kevin Wilhelm, SRU owns a 30-20-7 record at home.
 
LEADING THE ROCK
Reynolds has taken the SRU points lead for the first time this season as he paces The Rock offense with seven points and three goals. Retfalvi and Cornelis Dedecker trail the forward with six points apiece.
 
Retfalvi and Jimmy Irani trail Reynolds for the Slippery Rock goal lead with two apiece. Dedecker, Pandher and Tierney all have one tally for The Rock.

Dedecker leads all SRU players with four assists, while Retfalvi trails Dedecker with two assists. Irani, Aashi Pandher, Colton Swanson and Massimo Cuda have all collected one assist.
 
Pandher leads SRU with 14 shots through seven games. Dedecker and Reynolds trail the forward by one shot each, while Retfalvi has accumulated 10 shots. Pandher leads The Rock with nine shots on goal.

THE ROCK IN GOAL
Slippery Rock has played two different goalkeepers in its first eight games. Kaufman has seen the majority of the time in goal and owns a 2-3-1 record with 17 saves on a .654 save percentage, while allowing nine goals for a 1.5 goals against average.
 
Troy Nine is 1-1-0 with three saves on a .500 save percentage, while allowing three goals for a 1.5 GAA.
 
PSAC LEADERS
Slippery Rock has players near the top of multiple PSAC leaderboards through the first four weeks of the season. Dedecker currently sits atop the PSAC in assists with four helpers. The freshman also ranks third in the conference in assists per game with 0.50.
 
Pandher ranks second in the PSAC in shot accuracy with a .643 mark.
 
Kaufman ranks eighth in the PSAC in GAA with 1.5 and ninth in save percentage with a .654 mark.

DIVISION II LEADERS
Not only is Dedecker highly ranked in the PSAC, the freshman from Nykoping, Sweden is 24th in all of Division II in assists (4)
 
Pandher's shot accuracy has been a key to The Rock all season, as the junior from Brampton, Ontario has constantly tested opposing goalkeepers. Pandher currently ranks 20th in the nation in shot on goal percentage (.643).

KAUFMAN EARNS PSAC WEST HONOR
Kaufman took home the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week award this past week for his performance against Lock Haven University and Seton Hill. Kaufman totaled six saves on a .667 save percentage, while having a 1.5 GAA against the Bald Eagles and the Griffins. The sophomore from Rockledge, Florida earned his first career shutout against Lock Haven and made a career-high four stops against Seton Hill.
 
WILHELM ON THE SRU WINS LIST
Wilhelm currently sits in a tie for fourth place on SRU's all-time wins list with 42 wins. Wilhelm is tied with Michael Bonelli (2010-13) and current Slippery Rock women's soccer head coach Noreen Herlihy (1997-01). Wilhelm sits 14 wins behind John Eiler (1946-55) for third place on the wins list.

GANNON SCOUTING REPORT
The Golden Knights have struggled in 2025 compared to the standard it has set for itself. Gannon holds a 3-2-3 record overall and a 1-0-1 record in the PSAC West. The Golden Knights started the season receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) pre-season poll, but have since fallen out of that category. Gannon has yet to put together back-to-back wins this season.
 
Senior forward Sverre Orten leads Gannon with five goals and 13 points. Rafa Hyde and Enzo Rekka trail Orten with three goals apiece. Jack Kenyon (2), Per Kristian Lauvstad (2) and Shota Toyama (1) are the other goal scorers for the Golden Knights this season.
 
Orten paces Gannon with three assists. Kenyon, Toyama and Fabricio Zuliani trail Orten with two assists apiece. The Golden Knights have six other players to register one assist.
 
Gannon has seen two goalkeepers play this season. Samuel Alarcon has a 2-1-2 record with a 1.45 GAA and a .600 save percentage, while Andre Moraes has a 1-1-1 record with a 2.00 GAA and a .643 save percentage.
