Rock stays in national rankings at No. 24

The Rock football team dropped 10 spots into a tie for No. 24 in this week's national rankings released Monday by the American Football Coaches Association.

WACO, Texas – The Slippery Rock University football team dropped 10 places into a tie for No. 24 in the NCAA Division II national rankings after the American Football Coaches Association released its updated national poll Monday.

The Rock extend their ranked streak that began 2,485 days ago and have now been nationally ranked in every poll released since the final poll of the 2018 season.

Slippery Rock, which lost 38-35 on the road at Gannon, was one of two top 25 teams to lose to an unranked opponent last week and stay in the poll, joining California (Pa.), which dropped 10 spots from No. 6 to No. 16 after losing 16-7 at home against Seton Hill.

Defending national champion Ferris State remained atop the poll with all 31 first place votes, while Harding remained second, West Florida remained third and Kutztown stayed at No. 4. Western Colorado moved up two spots to round out the top five.

Texas-Permian Basin climbed three spots to No. 6 with the rest of the top 10 being filled out by Augustana, Grand Valley State, West Alabama and Minnesota Duluth.

Kutztown, California (Pa.) and Slippery Rock remain the only three PSAC teams to be ranked in the top 25 this week. Indiana (Pa.), which has a bye week this week before traveling to SRU next week, is the second team out of the rankings and leads all other Super Region One teams in the "others receiving votes" section of the poll.

No. 17 Virginia Union of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, No. 21 Frostburg State of the Mountain East Conference and No. 24 Johnson C. Smith of the CIAA round out the six Super Region One teams in this week's top 25.

Charleston (MEC) joins Indiana (Pa.) in the "others receiving votes" section of the poll to give Super Region One eight teams mentioned in this week's poll.

Slippery Rock will look to avoid a third straight loss with another road trip Saturday for a noon game at Seton Hill in Greensburg.

A look at the updated AFCA national poll can be found below. Slippery Rock also dropped from No. 16 to out of this week's D2football.com poll, available HERE.
