LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team recorded a 0-0 tie on the road Wednesday at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division competition.
Â
Wednesday's result not only moves The Rock's record to 6-5-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the PSAC West, it also stretches SRU's unbeaten streak to a season-long four games, which is tied for the second longest such streak inside the program dating back to 2016.
Â
With four games remaining in the regular season, Slippery Rock is tied with Seton Hill University for second place in the PSAC West standings at 10 points apiece, four points behind first-place Gannon.
Â
The Rock and Griffins are a point in front of fourth-place Lock Haven, which saw its record move to 6-4-4 overall and 2-1-3 in league games with Wednesday's tie. The top three teams in the PSAC West standings at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the PSAC Tournament.
Â
Goalkeeper
Alvey Kaufman stopped three shots Wednesday to secure Slippery Rock's fourth consecutive shutout. Individually, Kaufman has not yielded a goal in his last three appearances.
Â
The Rock's defense successfully cleared all six of Lock Haven's corner kicks all the while allowing just three of the Bald Eagles' 13 shot attempts to reach Kaufman. Opponents have produced only 10 shots on goal during The Rock's current unbeaten streak.
Â
Offensively, Slippery Rock registered seven shots on the night with
Colton Swanson tallying SRU's lone shot on goal.
Â
Reigning PSAC West Athlete of the Week
Kaden Reynolds compiled a game-high three shots.
Massimo Cuda came off the bench to log two attempts as well, while
Zsombor Retfalvi accounted for The Rock's remaining attempt.
Â
Following a scoreless first half in which LHU held a slight 6-5 edge in total shots, the Bald Eagles posted five consecutive attempts in the second half. However, only one of the shots – a 51st minute attempt by Carter – was on goal and that was stopped by Kaufman to keep the game 0-0.
Â
Lock Haven's best chance for a go-ahead goal came in the 82nd minute when Danny Ogan was awarded a penalty kick, but the attempt went well high and wide.
Â
Cuda fired off two shots following Ogan's miss, but both attempts were off target while a final 88th minute try off the foot of Carter Rosno rattled off the far post leading to the eventual scoreless tie.
Â
For the game, Lock Haven held advantages over SRU in total shots (13-7), shots on goal (3-1) and corner kicks (6-2). Rosno placed two of his three shots on goal.
Â
Slippery Rock looks to continue its postseason push when it hosts Seton Hill noon Saturday on Senior Day at Egli Field for what will be a key PSAC West matchup.
