SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's track & field team picked up nine points Friday to sit sixth in the team standings after the first of three days of competition at the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships.

The highlight of the opening day for SRU came from
Katie Plassio, who picked up All-PSAC honors with a third place finish in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 37:18.60 to score six points for the team.
Ruthie Hughes also grabbed two points in the 10,000m with a seventh place finish in 37:57.19.

The other point scored by The Rock Friday came from
Savannah Schneck, who took eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.65 meters.

Millersville leads the team standings with 17 points, followed by Edinboro with 15 points. Seton Hill, Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg are tied for third with 10 points, with Slippery Rock sitting sixth with nine points.

In addition to the two event finals Friday, the first four events of the seven-event heptathlon were contested. Slippery Rock was led by
Lydia Latimer, who sits second in the standings with 2,872 points with three events to go.
Lorna Speigle is sixth with 2730 points, followed by
Maddy Miller in 11th with 2,549 points,
Leighanne Swan in 14th with 2,390 points and
Alison Lamoreaux in 16th in 2,087 points.

The final three events of the heptathlon will take place Saturday, along with half of the field event finals, the 3,000-meter steeplechase final and trials in all events from 800 meters down.

Competition is scheduled to begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the heptathlon, noon in the field and 1:05 p.m. on the track.
