SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University men's basketball program recently took a break from their spring semester to work with the Butler County Special Olympics Basketball Team.
Â
Members of The Rock's team and coaching staff helped the Butler County Special Olympics Basketball Team prepare for their upcoming tournaments with practices and scrimmages.
Â
As part of the practice, the men's basketball program set up skill stations which allowed Rock players to interact with and provide personal one-on-one coaching to the Special Olympic athletes before holding 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 scrimmages.
Â
This year marked the second consecutive season in which the Slippery Rock men's basketball program worked with the Butler County Special Olympics team.
Â
Slippery Rock is coming off a successful 2023-24 season in which it went 16-14 overall and 13-9 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Rock qualified for the PSAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed in the Western Division and snapped a five-year postseason winless drought by defeating Seton Hill University in the first round of the conference tournament.
Â
This year's Rock team also posted a 13-1 record inside Morrow Field House, which is tied for the third highest single-game win total at Morrow Field House in program history.
Â
SRU has now recorded six consecutive winning seasons, five of which have come under the direction of head coach
Ian Grady.
