GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team returned to its winning ways with a 7-0 shutout on the road at Seton Hill University Tuesday.

In addition to snapping a mini two-match losing streak, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division victory improves The Rock's record to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in league matches. Seton Hill exits the day at 4-10 overall and 1-3 inside the PSAC West.

The shutout victory was SRU's second such of the 2024 season.

Slippery Rock quickly earned the first point of the match courtesy of back-to-back 6-0 victories from the second and third doubles flights as
Georgie Lancaster and
Gabriela del Val del Toro bested Maria Pereda and Kendall McCluskey while
Tina Slovak and
Dari Sakhanova downed Sophia Solomon and Kaylee Kanuka.

Slovak and Sakhanova have won four straight matches to even their overall record on the year to 6-6.

Slippery Rock closed out doubles play with another win out of the top flight where
Amaia Balaguer Brau and
Nicole Kempton pushed their personal winning streak to two matches by way of a 6-3 triumph over Carissa Shepard and Kasey Storkel.

The Rock carried over their doubles momentum into the singles portion of the contest by rattling off wins in every flight to close out the team victory.

The top portion of SRU's lineup saw Balaguer Brau – the 59th ranked singles athlete in Division II – beat Shepard (6-1, 6-3) while del Val del Toro earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Pereda and Sakhanova defeated Storkel in 6-0, 6-0 shutout.

del Val del Toro's singles win marked the 128th victory of her collegiate career. She now needs just two more victories to pass Lacey Cohen (2016-21) for sixth place on SRU's career wins ledger.

Balaguer Brau is now 11-9 this season while Sakhanova's victory pushed her record to 9-9.

The back half of Slippery Rock's singles lineup all earned wins as well with Kempton beating Kanuka (6-1, 6-1) in addition to a 6-0, 6-2 victory for Slovak over Solomon and Lancaster capturing a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of McCluskey.

Tuesday's results stretched Slovak's record to 8-2 and Kempton's to 11-5.

Slippery Rock continues a busy four-match 4 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Edinboro at the SRU Tennis Courts for what will be The Rock's 2024 home-opener. Â Â
