CLARION, Pa. -
The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team picked up its second Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division shutout of the week following a 7-0 victory on the road Saturday at Clarion.

The win moves The Rock's record to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in league matches while Clarion drops to 1-7 overall and 0-2 inside the PSAC West.

Slippery Rock quickly earned the doubles point following a forfeit victory from the second flight and a shutout out of the third slot with Amaia Balaguer Brau and Nicole Kempton then sending SRU into the singles portion of Saturday's match with all the momentum courtesy of a 6-1 win from the top slot over Davan Lion and Josie Beckerleg.

After winning three consecutive matches, Kempton and Balaguer Brau have improved their record as a pairing to 8-6 in 2024.

SRU began singles play up 2-0 after being credited with another forfeit win from the fourth flight to go with its doubles point.

The Rock went on to post consecutive 6-0, 6-0 victories out of the third, fifth and sixth flights.

Dari Sakhanova led off the trio of shutouts by defeating Polia Vladeva followed by Tina Slovak earning the official match-deciding point against Steph Juarez Murguia and Georgie Lancaster downing Taelyn Thomas.

Sakhanova has won two straight matches to push her singles record for the year above the .500 mark at 10-9. Slovak meanwhile remains a near perfect 9-2.

With the team decision already in hand, Slippery Rock ended the day by seeing Gabriela del Val del Toro defeat Beckerleg in second-flight competition 6-0, 6-1 and Balaguer Brau best Lion from the top flight 6-0, 6-2.

del Val del Toro is now 13-7 this year with Balaguer Brau close behind for The Rock's top singles record at 12-9.

Slippery Rock will now look to close out a perfect week with a victory Sunday over West Chester University. Opening serve from the SRU Tennis Courts is set for 11 a.m.
