SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's track & field team celebrated its first home meet of the season by recording 23 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, one NCAA provisional mark, seven event wins and 48 top-10 finishes at the Dave Labor Invitational Saturday at the William Lennox Track.
Â
The Rock hosted nearly 1,100 athletes from more than 30 colleges in a meet that began at 10 a.m. and wrapped up under the lights at 10 p.m.
Â
The highlight of the day for SRU came from
Tiffany Jolayemi, who won the hammer with an NCAA provisional throw and a season-best mark of 53.02 meters. It marked one of three wins for The Rock throwers as
Sarah Corrie also took the shot put and
Isabella Bartoletti won the javelin. Corrie led three SRU athletes to top five showings in the shot put with a mark of 13.70 meters.
Becca Martin was fourth at 12.80 meters and
Olivia Heckman was fifth at 12.71 meters. Bartoletti took the top spot in the javelin with a throw of 37.23 meters on a day where cold temperatures and high winds made the competition difficult.
Â
Cassidy Davis picked up the other win in the field for SRU with a victory in the high jump with a clearance of 1.60 meters.
Paige Griffith made her return from injury to take third with a clearance of 1.55 meters and
Lydia Latimer was sixth at 1.55 meters as well.
Alice Bogia capped the PSAC marks in the jumps with a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.22 meters.
Â
Slippery Rock won three events on the track with Latimer picking up a win in the 400-meter dash in 58.92 seconds.
Samantha Gilbert won the 100-meter dash in 12.05 seconds after clocking a career-best of 11.93 seconds in the prelims. Gilbert was also fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.33 seconds and hit the PSAC mark in the long jump with a runner-up finish and a leap of 5.51 meters.
Regan Johnson was second in the 100m in 12.20 seconds and took sixth in the 200m in 25.90 seconds.
Thai-Lin Pierce capped the PSAC marks in the 100m with a fifth place finish in 12.44 seconds. Gilbert, Johnson and Pierce also teamed with
Layne Miller to win the 4x100-meter relay in 48.14 seconds.
Â
The Rock hit three PSAC marks in the hurdles with
Rachel Veneziano finishing third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.76.
Chaley Younkin took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.17 seconds after clocking a time of 14.93 seconds in the prelims.
Chalondra Clarke was fifth in the 100m hurdles in 15.30 seconds. Veneziano and Younkin closed out the meet by teaming with
Shannon McCullough and
Lydia Reed to place third in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:10.42.
Â
The Rock picked up a pair of PSAC marks in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with
Hannah Burgoon taking fifth in 12:12.53 and
Sydney Pitcovich finishing seventh in 12:23.38.
Â
The final PSAC qualifying efforts for SRU came in the pole vault, which took place indoor at The Vault Shack in Volant due to the unsafe weather conditions.
Kendall Grossman took second with a clearance of 3.75 meters and
Allie Taylor was fourth with a mark of 3.45 meters.
Â
Saturday's meet marked the first of two home meets for SRU this spring with the next home event scheduled for April 18. Before then, The Rock will travel to three different meets next week, competing Thursday and Friday at Susquehanna, Friday and Saturday at Westminster and Friday through Sunday at Bucknell.
