SCOUTING THE ROCK
Last Time Out: Slippery Rock finished the regular season by earning its sixth consecutive victory in a 7-0 shutout April 26 against California (Pa.).
Â
• One of only two roster additions for The Rock from a season ago,
Amaia Balaguer Brau has acquainted herself smoothly in SRU's lineup as the Saint Thomas Aquinas transfer has anchored Slippery Rock's singles lineup by going 16-9 overall and 12-5 in first-flight matches.
Â
• Playing in her final collegiate season,
Gabriela del Val del Toro is capping off her time at The Rock in fine fashion with a 16-7 overall record and a stellar 11-4 mark when playing from the second flight.
Â
•
Dari Sakhanova, the 2023 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, has followed up her stellar rookie campaign from a year ago by having won 10 of her 15 third flight matches this season on the way to a 14-9 overall record. After a slow start to the year, Sakhanova has won seven of her last 10 outings.
Â
• With a 14-6 overall record and a 6-3 mark out of the fourth flight,
Nicole Kempton is making a strong push to follow Sakhanova as this season's PSAC West Freshman of the Year.
Â
•
Tina Slovak is in the midst of a breakout season that has seen the sophomore compile a near flawless 13-2 overall record, including a 6-1 fifth flight showing. Slovak was the only Rock athlete to go a perfect 6-0 in PSAC West matches this year.
Â
• It is impossible to quantify the importance that the return of
Nuria Martin Lopez, who missed much of the season due to injury before returning on April 16, is to The Rock's postseason chances. 9-6 overall this year, Martin Lopez has posted a perfect 3-0 singles record since her return.
Â
• The trio of Balaguer Brau, Slovak and Sakhanova all enter the postseason on personal six-match winning streaks with del Val del Toro close behind at five consecutive wins.
                                                                                                                                                  Â
• Balaguer Brau and Kempton make up The Rock's top doubles team. The first-year partners have gone 11-7 overall and 4-2 in conference matches this year.
Â
• Now in their second year as a team, Slovak and Sakhanova are a healthy 9-7 in dual matches this season thanks in no small part to a perfect 5-0 PSAC West record.
Â
• SRU's senior duo of del Val del Toro and Martin Lopez are 10-2 when teaming together, including a 10-1 effort out of the third flight and a perfect 4-0 conference mark.
