PSAC TOURNAMENT TICKETS PUNCHED
Four of the eight available berths into the upcoming PSAC Tournament have been clinched. In the Western Division, both Indiana (Pa.) and Slippery Rock have locked up postseason berths with East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg securing bids from the Eastern Division.

The top four teams in standings from both the Western Division and Eastern Division at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the PSAC Tournament.

HOME PLAYOFF MATCH AT STAKE
While already assured a berth into the upcoming conference tournament, a victory Wednesday against California clinches the second seed in the Western Division for Slippery Rock and in turn secure a home match in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 PSAC Tournament April 28 at the SRU Tennis Courts against the third seed from the Eastern Division.

If Slippery Rock loses to California, the Vulcans earn the second seed and drop The Rock to the third seed where they would then travel to the second seed in the Eastern Division April 28.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
Slippery Rock played three ranked opponents on the road last week and came home with two victories. Following a 4-3 setback at No. 32 Indiana (Pa.), Slippery Rock rattled off back-to-back victories over No. 23 Charleston (7-0) and No. 47 West Virginia Wesleyan (5-2).

ROCK AMONG TOP NINE IN ATLANTIC REGION
Slippery Rock was included in the alphabetized list of the top nine teams in the Atlantic Region when the NCAA DII Women's Tennis Committee unveiled its first set of regional rankings last week.

The NCAA regional rankings determine the participants for the NCAA Tournament. The Atlantic Region consists of the PSAC, the Mountain East Conference (MEC), the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and select independent institutions within the region's borders.

All three conference tournament champions within the region receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament with the next four highest ranked teams in the final regional rankings receiving at-large bids. Updated regional rankings will be released every Wednesday until the conclusion of the season.

The official release of the 48-team field for the 2026 NCAA Tournament will be announced 8:30 p.m. May 4 on NCAA.com. SRU was joined in the regional rankings by Charleston, East Stroudsburg, Fairmont State, Frostburg State, IUP, Salem, Shaw and West Virginia Wesleyan.

Slippery Rock is 4-1 against teams ranked in the first batch of Atlantic Region rankings.

IT'S GOOD TO BE HOME
To say Slippery Rock is tough to beat at home is an understatement. Dating back to the 2021-22 season, Slippery Rock is 20-1 in matches played at the SRU Tennis Courts. Wednesday's match will be SRU's third true home match of the year after previously beating Fairmont State (6-1) and Edinboro (7-0).

CLOSING THE REGULAR SEASON HOT
A victory over California would send The Rock into the PSAC Tournament with a 12-3 record. Slippery Rock has won at least 12 of its first 15 matches in a season just nine other times in program history with the last time being a 13-2 start in 2011-12.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
• Slippery Rock's three doubles pairings of Nicole Kempton / Alissia Kivi, Amaia Balaguer Brau / Tina Slovak and Nadia Rodewald / Dari Sakhanova have dominated the competition for the majority of the season, combining to earn the opening team point in 13 of 14 matches this year.

• The nationally ranked duo of Kivi and Kempton – which checked in at No. 33 in the most recent national doubles rankings released by the ITA – enter the regular season finale at 18-11 overall and 9-5 in first flight dual bouts.

• Slovak and Balaguer Brau have strung together four consecutive wins, upping their record to a stellar 16-4 overall including an 11-3 showing out of the second flight.

• Rodewald and Sakhanova have been virtually unbeatable this year with just two losses in 21 contests. As part of their 19-2 overall record is an 11-1 effort in third-flight outings.

• Things haven't got much easier for The Rock's opposition through the majority of the season when singles matches begin as five members of SRU's standard singles lineup all have at least 14 wins this season.

• Kivi is in the midst of a great sophomore season in which the 2024-25 PSAC West Freshman of the Year has gone 20-4 overall and 11-3 out of the second flight. She enters the California match on a four-match winning streak.

• Facing the toughest competition opponents have to offer, Balaguer Brau is 17-7 overall and 10-4 from the top spot in the singles rotation. Included in Balaguer Brau's success this year is a recent win over Charleston's Sara Martinez, who was positioned 71st in last week's ITA singles rankings.

• Kempton and Rodewald sport matching 16-6 records. Kempton is 9-4 out of the third flight. Rodewald has registered 11 consecutive victories and is 9-1 in sixth flight matches.
