NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University men's and women's track & field teams sent a small group of athletes to Walsh University Thursday to compete in the Walsh Tune-Up.
 
SRU finished the day with a pair of PSAC qualifying marks with Jennifer Cichra leading the way by lowering her PSAC qualifying time in the 1,500-meter run to 4:47.94. Hannah Burgoon also hit the PSAC standard in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
 
Cichra took third in the 1,500m and was the lone SRU athlete to improve their PSAC qualifying mark at the Walsh meet.
 
Burgoon was fourth in the steeplechase in 12:22.44, although she already had the PSAC standard from earlier this spring.
 
The Rock women had a few athletes narrowly miss PSAC marks with Skye Hackathorn placing 10th in the 1,500m in 4:55.30, missing the standard of 4:55.00 by just three-tenths of a second. Autumn Wyatt and Katie Book narrowly missed the PSAC mark in the triple jump (11.00m) with Wyatt placing fourth at 10.59 meters and Book finishing fifth at 10.58 meters.
 
On the men's side, Noah Johnson came close to the PSAC mark in the steeplechase with a fifth place finish in 10:16.75, missing the standard of 10:15.00 by less than two seconds. Bryan Dworek led the way in the field with a runner-up showing in the long jump with a mark of 6.55 meters and Jared Martone took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.83 meters.
 
The majority of The Rock's rosters are headed to Ashland University Friday and Saturday for the Ashland Alumni Open as a final tune-up for the PSAC Championships next week.
