SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team pushed its winning streak to five matches with a 7-0 victory over Edinboro Monday at the SRU Tennis Courts.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division win improves The Rock's record to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in league matches. Edinboro drops to 5-12 overall and 0-3 in conference contests following the loss.

Additionally, Monday's win locks up a PSAC Tournament berth for The Rock for what will be the program's sixth consecutive postseason appearance.

Slippery Rock maintained its season-long winning streak by taking all three doubles bouts followed by six sound singles triumphs en route to its fourth shutout of the year. Â

The match began by The Rock clinching the first team point of the afternoon courtesy of a pair of 6-1 wins out second and third doubles flights where
Gabriela del Val del Toro and
Nuria Martin Lopez beat Maria Salomao and Marina Zottele while
Tina Slovak and
Dari Sakhanova downed Luciana Ponce and Rafella de Almeida.

SRU maintained all the momentum heading into singles play thanks to
Amaia Balaguer Brau and
Nicole Kempton earning a 6-4 victory against Cecilia Carayol and Johanna Priedite out of the first flight.

del Val del Toro and Martin Lopez have now won seven straight matches to improve to 9-2 as a team in 2024.

Kempton opened the singles portion of Monday's match by registering the 13th victory of her freshman season by way of a 6-1, 6-1 showing over Ponce in the third flight.

Balaguer Brau proceeded to make it a 3-0 advantage in favor of SRU when she bested Priedite 6-3, 6-2 out of the top flight. She is now tied with del Val del Toro for the team lead in singles victories this season at 15.

Slovak officially sealed the win for SRU when she beat Almeida 6-2, 6-3 in fourth-flight action to improve to 12-2 on the year.

The day ended with three more Rock wins as
Georgie Lancaster downed Zottele (6-2, 6-2), Sakhanova beat Carayol (6-3, 6-3) and Martin Lopez claimed a 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) victory over Lara Sener.

Slippery Rock closes its 2024 regular season when it hosts California (Pa.) 4 p.m. Wednesday at the SRU Tennis Courts.
