SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team concluded its regular season schedule with a 7-0 shutout victory Friday against California (Pa.) on Senior Day at the SRU Tennis Courts.

Slippery Rock ends the regular season with a 12-6 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. SRU has now won six straight matches to clinch the program's sixth consecutive winning season. Â

The Rock will enter the upcoming PSAC Tournament as the second seed in the Western Division. SRU will host either Mercyhurst University or California in an opening-round match of the conference tournament 3 p.m. April 29 at the SRU Tennis Courts.

SRU grabbed its fifth shutout of the year by sweeping the doubles matches followed by six straight triumphs in the singles section of the bout.

Playing in the final regular season home matches of what have been two great careers, seniors
Nuria Martin Lopez and
Gabriela del Val del Toro posted the first win of the day by defeating Carmen Duran and Lilli Schreiber, 6-0, in third-flight competition.

The senior duo has now won eight straight matches to improve their record as a team to 10-2.

SRU proceeded to clinch the first team point of the match when
Dari Sakhanova and
Tina Slovak bested Diletta Maria Mungo and Bega Gotor, 6-1.

With the doubles point already secured,
Amaia Balaguer Brau and
Nicole Kempton kept the momentum firmly in SRU's control by downing Leandra Guldimann and Maria Del Mar Ojeda in a close 7-5 decision.

The Rock earned two quick singles points in the form of a 6-0, 6-0 shutout by Slovak against Gotor out of the fifth flight and a 6-2, 6-2 win in the second flight by del Val del Toro over Guldimann.

Sakhanova then officially clinched The Rock's 12th win of the season via a 6-0, 6-1 win against Schreiber from the third slot.

The remainder of the match featured SRU wins from the first flight where Balaguer Brau defeated Maria Mungo (6-2, 6-1) as well as a fourth-flight win for Kemption against Del Mar Ojeda (6-0, 6-1) and a 6-0, 6-2 showing for Martin Lopez versus Duran in the sixth flight.

Balaguer Brau and del Val del end the regular season with 16 singles wins apiece while Kempton and Sakhanova have each produced 14 victories with Slovak going anear perfect 13-2.
