YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team lost to Division I Bowling Green State University, 7-0, Saturday in a non-conference match at the YSU Tennis Center in Youngstown, Ohio.

Saturday's result moves The Rock's record to 2-1 on the year while BGSU improves to 3-2 following the win.

The Rock and Falcons traded 6-4 doubles decisions to open the match.

Following a win in the first flight by Lucy Furness and Hannah Neuman against Amaia Balaguer Brau and Nicole Kempton, Slippery Rock answered back courtesy of the veteran duo of Gabriela del Val del Toro and Nuria Martin Lopez besting Tia Clemens and Brynn Chaffee.

With the doubles win, del Val del Toro moved into a tie with Sarah Lynch (2009-12) for eighth place on The Rock's career wins list (singles + doubles) with 116. She is now 11 wins away from passing former teammate Lois Page (2018-22) for seventh place.

However, the doubles point ultimately went to Bowling Green as Leticia Fonseca and Isabella Baker were able to get the better of Tina Slovak and Dari Sakhanova, 6-3.

While Bowling Green ultimately completed its shutout of The Rock via a sweep of the six singles matches, the majority of the bouts were close defeats.

del Val del Toro and Georgie Lancaster both took their respective opponents to three sets out of the second and sixth flights with Neuman defeating del Val del Toro 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 and Chaffee edging Lancaster 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.

Additionally, Martin Lopez fell from the fourth flight in a close 7-5, 7-5 match to Baker.

Sakhanova and Kempton lost identical 6-4, 6-3 contests from the third and fifth flights to their respective opponents - Fonseca and Clemens - as well while Balaguer Brau also suffered a 6-2, 6-4 loss from the top flight against Furness in what was the first completed singles match of the afternoon.

Slippery Rock continues its non-conference slate with another Division I match 1 p.m.  Feb. 18 on the road at St. Bonaventure University.
