SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Anna Igims became the first Slippery Rock University women's cross country runner to earn All-America honors since 2010 to lead The Rock women to a 27th place finish Saturday at the NCAA Division II National Championships at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, California.

Slippery Rock improved four places from its 31st place finish at the 2023 national meet and was the highest finishing team from the Atlantic Region with 694 points, topping regional champion Davis & Elkins (28th, 716 points) by one place with East Stroudsburg finishing 32nd with 936 points.

Igims led the way for SRU with a 29th place finish after covering the wet, muddy 6,000-meter course in 21:13. The top 40 finishers earn All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, making Igims the first SRU All-American since Jen Harpp earned back-to-back All-America awards in 2009 and 2010.

The 29th place showing also marked an improvement of 70 positions for Igims after she took 99th at the 2023 National Championships in her first appearance at XC nationals.

Ruthie Hughes was the second SRU finisher in 119th place in 22:19. Jennifer Cichra was the third finisher in 195th place in 23:17. Cichra was also honored after the race with the 2024 NCAA Division II Women's XC Elite 90 Award for owning the highest GPA of all runners at the meet, becoming the first SRU female student-athlete in any sport to win an Elite 90 Award.

Maddie Grillo was the fourth SRU scorer in 214th place in 23:42 in her final SRU cross country race and freshman Tatiana Holt rounded out the scorers in 233rd place in 24:16.

Carissa Flynn was 237th in 24:35 and Hannah Burgoon was 252nd in 25:12 to round out the seven SRU entries.

Slippery Rock was making its fifth overall team appearance at a national meet and its second consecutive appearance.

The Rock's distance runners will now shift their focus to the indoor track & field season, which is set to begin the first weekend in December.
