SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University women's tennis head coach Matt Meredith has been named the 2023 recipient of the Edwin J. Faulkner College Coach Award by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Middle States section.

The Edwin J. Faulkner College Coach Award is presented annually to members who have done an outstanding job on and off the court to help promote the growth of tennis, demonstrates enthusiasm, a sense of true team camaraderie and has brought success to the community.

USTA Middle States award winners are chosen through a representation of USTA volunteers and staff, working together to compile nominations from each of the six Middle States districts: Allegheny Mountain, Central Pennsylvania, Delaware, Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the Philadelphia Area.

In addition to being a true ambassador for the sport of tennis off the court, Meredith has also enjoyed a decorated career as one of the most successful Division II coaches in NCAA history.

Since becoming head coach of the Slippery Rock women's tennis team in 1998, Meredith has produced a career record of 363-206 with a .638 winning percentage. He is currently ranked in the top-15 for career wins by a Division II head coach all-time and is the eighth winningest active coach in DII.

An eight-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Meredith has guided The Rock to 18 NCAA Tournament berths, while having mentored 68 All-PSAC honorees, three PSAC West Athlete of the Year award winners and six PSAC West Freshman of the Year selections.

Not just successes on the court, a staple of The Rock's women's tennis program under Meredith has been its dedication to academics.

SRU women's tennis annually compiles one of the top team GPAs in the entire PSAC. Over the last 12 academic years, Meredith's teams have finished the year with a team GPA of no worse than 3.331.

Under Meredith's guidance, SRU women's tennis has had five student-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team while four others have been bestowed with the prestigious Arthur Ashe Jr. Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Region Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.

2023 USTA Middle States award recipients will be honored at their respective district award ceremonies, which occur throughout the year.
