BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Amaia Balaguer Brau advanced to the semifinals in the singles bracket to lead the Slippery Rock University women's tennis team Saturday on day three of the 2023 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Region Championships at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on the campus of Bloomsburg University.

Balaguer Brau entered the tournament as ninth seed in the singles draw prior to winning three straight matches to setup a quarterfinal appearance to start Saturday against Sofiia Krasikova from the University of Charleston.

The sophomore transfer from St. Thomas Aquinas cruised to a quarterfinal win via set scores of 6-2 and 6-3 over Krasikova to move onto to the semifinals.

However, Balaguer Brau championship run would end in the semifinals following a narrow loss to Mercyhurst's Kayla Dean. After dropping the opening set to Dean 6-2, Balaguer Brau rebounded to win the second set 7-5 and force a tiebreaker which Dean ultimately won 10-6.

Balaguer Brau has had a fantastic start to her Slippery Rock career by winning four of her first six singles bouts and three of four doubles matches.

Slippery Rock concludes the individual portion of its 2023-24 schedule at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships Oct 7-9 in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
