Sunday's match was a contest between two regionally ranked programs as SRU entered the contest slotted third in the most recent set of Atlantic Region rankings while Jefferson was No. 3 in the East Region.

After losing the doubles point, Slippery Rock nearly rallied in the singles portion of Sunday's match to pull out a win, but Jefferson was able to earn a pair of close victories to end the day and hold on for the team victory.

The Rock and Rams traded 6-3 decisions to start doubles play as Emily Frost and Charly Egger defeated Gabriela del Val del Toro and Georgie Lancaster in the third flight with Dari Sakhanova and Tina Slovak besting Anna Morgill and Rose Huang at No. 2 doubles.

Jefferson was ultimately able to earn the doubles point when Nicole Hrbkova and Noelle Frenzel registered a tight 7-5 win against Teddi Isherwood and Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez from the top flight.

JU would then take 2-0 lead after Egger took the first singles decision of the match, a 6-1, 6-2 fourth flight victory against Slovak. Undeterred, Slippery Rock powered back to record three consecutive victories to take a 3-2 advantage in the overall team score.

SRU's comeback bid began courtesy of a 6-2, 6-1 victory by Sakhanova against Manni Zhang from the third flight followed by Isherwood downing Zenia Barretto 6-3, 7-5 in sixth flight action and Gonzalez Sanchez giving The Rock a lead by way of 6-3, 6-1 besting of Hrbkova out of the first flight.

However, Jefferson preserved its home victory as the Rams ended the contest with close wins at the second and fifth flights where Frenzel defeated del Val del Toro 7-6 (4), 7-5 and Huang beat Lancaster 7-6 (4), 6-3.
