SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team won its season opener for the 14th straight season with a 15-6 victory over the University of Findlay in a non-conference game Monday evening from a frigid and rainy Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Rock open the season 1-0 for the 14th straight year and pick up a win in their home opener for the 11th straight season. Findlay slips to 0-3 on the year.

Slippery Rock scored the first goal of the game less than four minutes into the first quarter when freshman Ida Modin tallied her first collegiate goal on her first career shot to give SRU a 1-0 lead with 11:32 to play in the period. Findlay would tie the game at 1-1 with 8:13 to play in the first, but goals from Charleigh Rondeau and Brooke Wisniewski in a 50-second span would put SRU out front for good.

The Rock built the advantage to 5-3 after the first quarter and then went on a 4-0 run in the second quarter to lead 9-3 at the break.

SRU opened the third quarter with two more goals to cap a 7-0 run and extend the lead to 11-3 and put the game out of reach. Findlay would score twice inside the final three minutes of the fourth quarter, including once with six seconds left, to account for the 15-6 final.

Slippery Rock posted advantages of 34-12 in total shots, 19-17 in ground balls and 15-10 in draw controls. The Rock tallied 14 caused turnovers and limited Findlay to 11-of-16 on the clear while gong 16-of-20 on their own clear attempts.

Lauren Searles finished with a career-high six points to pace the attack after scoring five goals and handing out one assist. Modin finished with two goals in her first game and fellow freshman Olivia Fox chipped in two goals in her debut.

Rondeau scored two goals and brought down 10 draw controls, Wisniewski and Camryn Whipple added one goal and one assist each and Krysta Frankowski handed out two assists to round out the multiple-point scorers.

Leora Owings scored one goal, caused three turnovers and had two draw controls in her first career game and Victoria Ziemba chipped in one goal to round out the point scorers.

Gillian O'Rourke made four saves in goal to pick up the win. Alexa Juska and Rachel Mahoney both tallied three caused turnovers and Nicole Masi added two caused turnovers to aide the defensive effort.
