LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University men's basketball standout
Maceo Austin was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Â
Austin earned his first PSAC West weekly honor after leading The Rock to a 100-71 season-opening victory over West Virginia Wesleyan College at Morrow Field House.
Â
In what was one of the top debuts by a Rock athlete in recent memory, Austin provided SRU with a 25-point, seven-assist, three-block, three-rebound, one-steal performance versus the Bobcats.
Â
Austin shot a nearly flawless 9-of-11 from the field overall including a 2-for-3 showing from 3-point territory in leading The Rock to their first 100-point game against a fellow Division II team since the 2008-09 season.
Â
A local product of Sharon, Pennsylvania, Austin is in his first year at Slippery Rock. Previously, he starred at Kennedy Catholic High School where he was a three-time all-state honoree and 2017-18 Class 1A Player of the Year in Pennsylvania before heading to Duquesne University as a three-star recruit and starting 33 of his 38 games played for the Dukes.
Â
Slippery Rock returns to competition 6 p.m. Tuesday when it opens a six-game road trip at Daemen University.
