LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University running back
Khalid Dorsey was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Offensive Athlete of the Week for his performance against Indiana University (Pa.) Saturday night.
Â
A graduate transfer from York, Pennsylvania, Dorsey earns his first PSAC weekly award after leading a stellar offensive effort that saw Slippery Rock put up 485 total yards of offense and 42 points against the league's top-ranked defensive unit from IUP. The Crimson Hawks entered the game allowing just 14.2 points and 249.0 yards per game.
Â
Dorsey rushed for career-highs of 123 yards and three touchdowns in the game and did it on just 15 carries, finishing the night with an average of 8.2 yards per carry. He scored on touchdown runs of two yards and eight yards, but the most important play of the game was a 45-yard touchdown run on the first SRU offensive play of the third quarter, which gave The Rock a 35-6 lead at the time.
Â
As a team, Slippery Rock rushed for 208 yards in the game to mark the third game with at least 200 rushing yards in the first five weeks of the season.
Â
On the season, Dorsey leads a dynamic running back trio for The Rock with 369 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns while averaging 6.7 yards per carry and 73.8 yards per game. He's also got two receiving scores for six total TDs on the season. His backfield counterparts
Chris D'Or and
Isaiah Edwards are both averaging at least 4.8 yards per carry as well. That trio has combined for 792 rushing yards and 11 rushing TDs through five games. As a unit, they are averaging 5.8 yards per carry on 137 total touches.
Much of the success for the SRU offense and the running game in particular can be shared with the veteran offensive line of LT
Yuriy Hryckowian, LG
Colton Rossi, C
Jeff Burkhart, RG
Nick Stazer and RT
Joe Cooper, who controlled the line of scrimmage all night against IUP.
Â
Slippery Rock has had at least one player recognized as a PSAC Athlete of the Week after each game of the 2023 season with QB
Brayden Long being recognized twice, WR
Kyle Sheets earning the offensive award once and DT
Munchie Johnson earning the defensive honor once.
