Rock rolls to 4-1 win at Pitt-Johnstown

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team scored four goals from four different players to complete the season sweep over Pitt-Johnstown Wednesday on the road.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team scored four goals from four different players to complete the season sweep over Pitt-Johnstown, 4-1, Wednesday on the road.

Slippery Rock improves its record to 7-3-2 overall, now 6-2-2 within the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. The Mountain Cats fall to 1-8-3 overall and 1-7-2 in conference play.

Morgan Sarver led the way with four points on a goal and a pair of assists, while Sydney Patrick tallied three points on one goal and one assist. Maddie DeLucio and Jaime Dermotta both added to the quartet of goals as well.

Bailey McGee and Skylar Munnikhuysen both added assists, the first of each of their respective careers.

Patrick and Sarver both registered four shots in the match, with Patrick placing three of hers on target. McGee landed two of her three shots on goal as well.

Munnikhuysen and Dermotta were joined by Ashley Rea, Olivia Yoder and Libby Zacharyasz in totaling two shots Wednesday.

Leah Allman faced 12 shots on the day, making four saves in the winning effort.

The Rock's fourth shot of the game turned into their first goal, courtesy of Patrick in the 14th minute. Coming from a Sarver corner kick, Munnikhuysen added an assist before Patrick scored her fifth goal on the year.

Slippery Rock doubled its lead just six minutes later, with a 20th minute goal coming on a pass from Patrick to DeLucio, her third goal on the year. DeLucio has now scored in back-to-back games after adding a goal in Slippery Rock's 2-0 win last week against Seton Hill.

The Rock went into the halftime break with a comfortable 2-0 lead, holding advantages in shots (13-2) and corner kicks (7-0).

Sarver scored her fifth goal of the season nine minutes into the second frame on a ball from McGee. In the 79th minute, Dermotta, coming off the bench, received a pass from Sarver and scored her first goal of the year, the third of junior midfielder's career.

UPJ finally punched in a goal in the 82nd minute from Lydia Roman and while Pitt-Johnstown added two more shots in the last four minutes of play, it was ultimately kept out of the net as SRU finished off the three-goal win.

Slippery Rock led the game in shots (22-12), shots on goal (14-5) and corner kicks (11-2).

The victory keeps Slippery Rock's away record at Pitt-Johnstown perfect, now at 6-0-1 when facing the Mountain Cats on the road.

After defeating UPJ earlier this year at home, 5-0, the game also marked The Rock's second sweep in PSAC West play this year, adding to their pair of wins over Seton Hill University.

Slippery Rock will resume play 7 p.m. Saturday on the road at Clarion. The Rock played the Golden Eagles to a 2-2 draw at home earlier this season.
