All-Time Series: SRU leads 16-5
Last Played: Feb. 12, 2022 (SRU won 80-67)
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock put together one of its most impressive performances of the season on the way to a 96-71 home win over California (Pa.) while Seton Hill picked up a home victory of its own in the form of a 90-68 triumph against Clarion. Both games were played Jan. 7.
SRU's offensive explosion versus California was an efficient one at that as The Rock recorded season-highs in field goal percentage (.633 / 38-of-60) and 3-point shooting (.524 / 11-of-21) thanks in no small part to 17 assists, which were also a season-best, all the while connecting on 81.8 percent (9-of-11) of its free throw attempts. Defensively, The Rock matched their previous season-high in steals with 12 as SRU limited the Vulcans to their lowest point total of the season.
Â
ALL-TIME SERIES
Slippery Rock has won its last 10 games against the Griffins to improve its record over Seton Hill in the all-time series to 16-5. While SRU has not lost to SHU since 2016, six of the last 10 games have been decided by nine points or less. The Rock swept the season series a year ago via a 70-61 home win and an 80-67 victory in Greensburg.

START #100 ON DECK FOR BRITT
When
Amante Britt takes the floor Wednesday it will mark the 100th start of what has been an outstanding collegiate career and put Britt in elite company at The Rock. To date, there have been just two other athletes start 100 or more games in program history: Myron Brown (111 / 1987-91) and Troy Mild (100 / 1980-84).
Â
Britt, who has started every game he has appeared in at SRU, will also become the 15th player in program history to play in 100 games for the Green and White. With 879 career points scored already, Britt is also on pace to become the 24th member of The Rock's 1,000-point club later in the season.
Â
He will open the week ranked seventh in program history in assists (296), eighth in minutes played (2,679), ninth in steals (124), 10th in made 3-pointers (92) and 34th in total points (879).
Â
MARKSMEN FROM DEEP
Collectively, Slippery Rock has been great from long range over its first two PSAC West games as SRU has combined to go 22-of-49 from 3-point range in its wins against Gannon and California.
Â
Leading the long-range attack as of late has been
Jonathan McFall and
Jomo Goings. McFall made 7-of-12 3-pointers last week while Goings hit on 5-of-7 attempts from distance.
Â
BIG WEEK FOR McFALL
Jonathan McFall played a pivotal role in The Rock's two wins last week as the senior averaged 19.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while producing extremely efficient shooting percentages of .522 (12-of-23) from the field, .636 (7-of-11) from 3-point range and a perfect 7-of-7 at the foul line.
Â
GATES FINISHES IN DOUBLE FIGURES AGAIN
Khalid Gates finished the California game with 14 points for what was his 12th straight game with 10 or more points. Dating back to the 2012-13 season (11 years), only three other Rock players have had more consecutive games scoring in double-figures during a season than Gates.
Â
Micah Till accomplished the feat twice with streaks of 17 (2017-18) and 15 (2018-19) while Maurice Lewis-Briggs had a streak of 20 such games in 2013-14 and Antonio Butler scored at least 10 points in 24 straight contests during the 2014-15 campaign.
Â
16 STRAIGHT FOUL SHOTS FOR McFALL
Jonathan McFall enters the Seton Hill game having made 16 consecutive foul shots, which is tied for the 10th longest free throw streak in program history. McFall last missed a free throw all the way back on Dec. 2 against Shepherd. No stranger to such streaks, McFall also made 18 consecutive foul shots a year ago.
Â
The record for consecutive free throws at The Rock belongs to Larry Deemer, who made 45 straight foul shots during the 1969-70 season.
Â
BEST 14-GAME STARTS IN SCHOOL HISTORY
If Slippery Rock were to beat Seton Hill to improve its record to 12-2 it would tie this year's team for the third best 14-game start to a season in the program's 112-year history. Slippery Rock last started a season 12-2 in 2017-18 while the best 14-game start at The Rock was 13-1 in in 1923-24 and 1924-25.
Â

Â

Â
FORCING THE ISSUE
Slippery Rock scored 33 points off 16 Vulcan turnovers in its win over California. In 13 games this season, SRU has done a great job of taking advantage of its opponents' mistakes with an average of 18.7 points off turnovers per game.
Â
If The Rock are able to maintain that average through the rest of the season it would top the current program single-season record of 17.8 points off of turnovers per game set by the 2018-19 team. SRU began tracking points off turnover as a statistic in 2014-15.
Â
WILLING PASSERS
After averaging just 6.7 assists per game over their first seven games, SRU has produced 10 or more assists in five of its last six games with an average of 12.7 a contest over that stretch including a season-high 17 in its most recent win over California.
Â
THE BENCH COMES THROUGH AGAIN
For the ninth time this season, and the sixth time in the last seven games, Slippery Rock's reserves once again outscored their counter parts as part of the win over California. On the year, The Rock's reserves average 21.3 ppg.
