ERIE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team fell, 3-0, on the road Friday to No. 8 Mercyhurst University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division match.

The conference loss moves SRU's overall record to 4-4-1 and its PSAC West mark to 2-2-0 while the nationally ranked Lakers improve to 10-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in the division.

Slippery Rock was led on offense by
Will Harrigan,
Ryan John and
Arturo Pla Hernandis with one shot each. Rock goalkeeper
Hossam Aly registered seven saves over 90 minutes.

The Lakers offensive efforts were led by Dylan Sumner with two goals and Nic Munch with the final goal of the contest.

Sumner opened his scoring efforts just 14 minutes into the first half placing a ball up and out of reach of Aly to give Mercyhurst a 1-0 advantage. The Slippery Rock backline settled in for the remainder of the half by successfully defending five more Laker shots, two of which were on target, heading into halftime trailing by one.

Coming out of the break, the Slippery Rock defense battled the Mercyhurst attack once more, defending the opening five shots over the first 25 minutes.

However, the Laker offense finally broke through as Sumner netted his second score of the game at 73:17 and Munch tacked on an insurance goal with less than 20 seconds remaining, securing the 3-0 Mercyhust win.

Over 90 minutes, Mercyhust held advantages over The Rock in total shots (18-3), shots on goal (10-0) and corner kicks (10-1).
