SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team fell, 2-0, Saturday to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opponent Gannon University at James Egli Field.

The conference loss moves Slippery Rock's record to 4-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC West while Gannon improves to 6-2-1 and 1-0-1 in the division.

The Rock was led on offense by
Alex Plimmer who landed SRU's lone two shots on goal. Helping in the offensive efforts was
Joe Skillicorn with two shots and Sam Hillman with a shot of his own.
Hossam Aly finished the match with eight saves over 90 minutes.

The Golden Knights scoring consisted of two goals by Sergio Del Castillo and one assist from Toby Gower.

Del Castillo opened his offensive output with a goal 37 minutes into the first half of play on a nicely placed cross by Gower. Only two minutes later, Del Castillo landed a penalty kick shot just barely out of the reach of Aly, giving Gannon a 2-0 advantage entering halftime.

Coming out of the break, an intense defensive battle ensued as Slippery Rock successfully defended four Golden Knight shot attempts, three of which were placed on goal, in the opening 17 minutes of the half.

However, Slippery Rock was not able to convert on the offensive end as Skillicorn and Hillman took the The Rock's only shots of the second half that were blocked and placed wide respectively, en route to a 2-0 Gannon win.

For the game, the Golden Knights held advantages over SRU in total shots (17-6), shots on goal (10-1) and corners (5-2).

Slippery Rock continues PSAC West action when it travels to Erie, Pennsylvania for a night match against Mercyhurst University 6 p.m. Sept. 30.
