BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team closed out its time at the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Region Championships Saturday at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on the campus of Bloomsburg University.

Following a largely successful opening day of the ITA regional championships on Friday, SRU began day two with one doubles team and five singles competitors vying for titles.

In the quarterfinals of the doubles championship,
Gabriela del Val del Toro and
Nuria Martin Lopez faced the top-seeded team of Karolin Kirchtag and Natalie Kmoskova from Indiana University (Pa.). Martin Lopez and del Val del Toro gave Kirchtag and Kmoskova a closer match than the No. 1 seed had faced all tournament to that point in an eventual close 6-3 loss.

Turning to the ITA Atlantic Region singles championship bracket, three of Slippery Rock's five remaining competitors all posted second-round victories to move on to the Round of 16.

Martin Lopez beat Salem's Ana Kunic 6-1, 6-1 while del Val del Toro bested Charleston's Alyssa Cameron 6-1, 6-3 with
Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez earning a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Gemma Cliffe of West Liberty.

Zoe Heed and
Tina Slovak had their tournament runs end in the second round as Heed fell to Kirchtag, the tournament's top seed, 6-1, 6-3 with Slovak losing to Riva Hondiashvilli of Charleston 6-2, 6-2.

Slippery Rock's championship hopes came to an end in the Round of 16 as Martin Lopez lost to Mercyhurst's Kayla Dean 6-1, 6-2 with Gonzalez Sanchez dropping a contest to Charleston's Prinkle Singh and del Val del Toro narrowly being edged by Emma Arnal of WLU.

SRU next concludes the individual portion of its 2022-23 schedule at the PSAC Individual Championships Oct 2-4 in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
