Rock jumps seven spots to No. 11 in DII poll

Slippery Rock jumped seven spots to No. 11 in this week's American Football Coaches Association Division II national poll announced Monday.

WACO, Texas – The Slippery Rock University football team jumped seven more places to No. 11 in this week's Division II national poll released Monday by the American Football Coaches Association.

The AFCA poll is widely regarded as the official national ranking used by the NCAA throughout the regular season.

Slippery Rock opened the season ranked No. 23 in the preseason poll, which marked the eighth straight season The Rock were ranked in the top 25 to begin the year. In just two weeks, The Rock have soared up the rankings 12 spots to No. 11 entering the third week of the season.

The latest jump in the rankings comes after Slippery Rock posted a 35-14 win on the road at West Chester last week, combined with losses by multiple teams that were ranked in the top 20 last week.

Slippery Rock is one of just two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams in the top 25 this week, headlined by defending regional champion Shepherd, which moved up one spot to No. 4 this week. The Rock sit at No. 11 as the next highest ranked team from Super Region One.

The PSAC also has three more schools listed in the "others receiving votes" section this week, including Kutztown, Indiana (Pa.) and California (Pa.), all three of which are currently on SRU's schedule for later this fall.

Super Region One has a total of five teams ranked in the top 25 this week with Shepherd and Slippery Rock leading the way. Ashland of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference has jumped from out of the top 25 to open the year all the way up to No. 12. Notre Dame (Ohio) of the Mountain East Conference climbed four spots to No. 17 this week and New Haven of the Northeast 10 Conference slipped one place to No. 25.

Other Super Region One teams listed in the "receiving votes" section this week include Tiffin (GMAC), Frostburg State (MEC) and Assumption (NE10).

Slippery Rock will look to improve to 3-0 for the third straight season when it travels to Millersville Saturday for a noon kickoff.
