Â
SCOUTING THE ROCK
• Slippery Rock is led by senior guard
Amante Britt, who enters the crossover games leading the PSAC in total points scored (154) and ranking second in points per game at 19.3.
Â
• Britt, who had 24 points at Wheeling, has made six of his last 14 3-point attempts and is shooting 41.5 percent from long range overall this year.
Â
• One of the top newcomers in the Atlantic Region this season,
Khalid Gates has scored at least 15 points in six straight games. Over eight starts, Gates has produced per game averages of 15.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.9 blocks while shooting 53.8 percent from the field overall.
Â
•
Lashon Lindsey is coming off a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double at Wheeling. The forward is SRU's leading rebounder with 6.0 per game to go with 7.3 points, 1.6 steals and 1.0 assists a contest as well.
Â
•
Jonathan McFall averages 13.6 points per game as SRU's third leading scorer on an efficient 52.6 field goal percentage. McFall also goes for 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals a game.
Â
• The trio of
Jomo Goings,
Ahmad Galimore and
Bobby Clifford all play critical roles for The Rock as well.
Â
• Clifford, who averages 4.1 ppg and 4.4 rpg, is one of three SRU athletes to have started all eight games.
Â
• Galimore is fourth on the team in minutes played (24.8 mpg) as the versatile swingman contributes in a myriad of ways to SRU with per game averages of 5.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals.
Â
• Goings ranks fifth for SRU in scoring at 7.0 ppg.
Â
• Rounding out The Rock's typical rotation is
Alex Griggs (2.9 ppg, 2.4 rpg),
Dylan Ahearn (2.2 ppg, 1.2 rpg, 1.0 apg) and
Nik Cazacu (1.4 ppg, 2.5 rpg). Ahearn had his best performance of the season at Wheeling with seven points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal.

A GREAT ONE-TWO PUNCH
Through eight games, Slippery Rock's inside-outside duo of Britt and Gates have combined to score 280 points. There are only two other duos across the 18-team PSAC to score more points over the first month of the season than Britt and Gates.
Â
Top Scoring Duos in the PSAC (Total Points)
1-Lakeem McAliley / Carlos Pepin (East Stroudsburg): 285
2-Keith Palek III / Cam Polak (California): 282
3-Amante Britt / Khalid Gates: 280
t4-Shawndale Jones / Dave Morris (Indiana): 277
t4-Robert Smith / Kyle McGee (West Chester): 277
THE MAGIC OF MORROW
Few teams in the Atlantic Region dominate at home like Slippery Rock does at Morrow Field House. Since 2008-09, Slippery Rock is an outstanding 148-44 (.771) at home. SRU is a perfect 5-0 at home already this year.
Â
THE ROCK vs. THE PSAC EAST
Dating back to the 2011-12 season when the PSAC began counting crossover games as division contests, Slippery Rock has compiled a record of 41-24 (.631) overall against Eastern Division teams including a quality 22-9 (.710) mark against PSAC East schools at Morrow Field House. So far this season, Slippery Rock is 1-1 against the PSAC East after splitting a pair of road games earlier in the year with a win at Shepherd and a loss to Shippensburg.
SLIPPERY ROCK IN BACK-TO-BACKS
Historically speaking, stretches of two games in two days have not been a problem for The Rock. Dating back to the 2009-10 season, SRU is a strong 62-34 (.646) when playing contests in back-to-back days.
Â
The Rock are even more impressive in the second leg of back-to-backs as evidenced by a 34-14 (.708) record in those contests. A season ago, Slippery Rock went 5-1 when playing back-to-back games and is 3-1 in such games this season.
8 STRAIGHT AT HOME
Slippery Rock enters the crossovers having won its last eight contests at Morrow Field House. The winning streak started with three home victories at the end of last season and has continued into this year with SRU's first five wins of the year coming at Morrow Field House.
Â
A pair of crossover wins would give SRU the program's 10th double-digit home winning streak since Morrow Field House opened in 1959. The longest home winning streak at SRU is 27 set over a three-year stretch between 1989 and 1991.
Â
The Rock's current eight-game home winning streak is the third longest active streak in the PSAC behind only IUP (18) and Millersville (13).
HISTORIC START WITHIN REACH
A PSAC crossover sweep of Mansfield and Bloomsburg would give Slippery Rock a 9-1 record. Over the program's 112-year history, there have been just six teams start the season with a 10-game record of 9-1 or better.
Â
Season Record in First 10 Games
1923-24: 10-0
2009-10: 10-0
1924-25: 9-1
1952-53: 9-1
1963-64: 9-1
1990-91: 9-1
VALUING POSSESSION
A year after setting a program single-season record for turnovers per game, Slippery Rock is once again limiting its mistakes at a great rate. Through eight games, SRU is committing just 12.6 turnovers per game, the second lowest average in the PSAC.
Â
As such, opponents are only scoring 11 points off turnovers per game against SRU. Meanwhile, The Rock forces 15.4 turnovers a game which has translated into 18.4 points off turnovers per game.
WHO SAYS THERE'S NO SECOND CHANCES IN LIFE?
Slippery Rock is fourth in the PSAC in offensive rebounding at 12.5 per game. Gates accounts for 2.3 offensive rebounds per game followed by McFall (1.9), Clifford (1.6), Lindsey (1.4) and Galimore (1.3). SRU turns its plethora of offensive rebounds into 13.9 second chance points per game.
9 IN A ROW FOR BRITT
Dating back to the final game of last season, Britt has now made a 3-pointer in nine consecutive games. Over the last 14 years of SRU basketball, there have only been six longer such streaks by a Rock athlete.
Â

CLUTCH FOUL SHOOTING
The pressure of late-game foul shooting has had no effect on The Rock this season, in fact SRU has shined when tasked with converting free throws in crunch time. As a team, Slippery Rock enters the Mansfield game having made 80 percent (32-of-40) of its free throws in the final five minutes of regulation this season.
Â
