PSAC All-Conference Release
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team had three athletes named to the 2022 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division team, the league office announced Thursday.
Hossam Aly,
Ryan John and
Arturo Pla Hernandis all earned second-team All-PSAC West accolades for the first time in their careers.
Aly, a senior goalkeeper from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, started 15 of the 16 matches he appeared in for The Rock this year. Aly concluded a solid senior campaign leading the PSAC in saves (89) and saves per game (5.56) in addition to being seventh in the conference in save percentage (.736).
Aly leaves SRU ranked 12th in program history in goals against average (1.82), 14th in shutouts (5), 17th in saves (143) and 19th in wins (8).
John, a freshman defender from Norwich, England, earned his all-conference recognition after starting all 17 matches for SRU. A key member of the Slippery Rock defense, John helped back a unit that held its opponents to 1.88 goals per game, the third best mark in the PSAC West.
In 17 starts, Pla Hernandis, a sophomore forward from Beniparrell, Spain, made his mark atop The Rock's offense after tallying a team-high 16 points on eight goals, the sixth-highest total in the conference. Pla Hernandis also ended the 2022 season having produced 31 percent (23-of-74) of SRU's on-target shots.
Across the division, Mercyhurst's Dylan Sumner was named PSAC Western Division Athlete of the Year while fellow Laker Jonathan Gomes was named PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year while MU's Ryan Osborne received his second consecutive PSAC West Coach of the Year honor.
Rounding out the individual awards was Pau Ferrer of Gannon, who was named Western Division Freshman of the Year.
Slippery Rock finished its 2022 season with an overall record of 5-10-2, and a PSAC West mark of 3-6-1.
