BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Gabriela del Val del Toro and Nuria Martin Lopez will represent the Slippery Rock University women's tennis team in the doubles final at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Individual Championships following a semifinal victory Sunday on day two of the 2022-23 conference championships at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on the campus of Bloomsburg University.
 
After a pair of wins on day one, Martin Lopez and del Val del Toro, the third-seeded team in the tournament, faced Katy Graydon and Lydia Vlachou of Indiana University (Pa.) Sunday in the semifinal round. The Rock duo came away with a convincing 8-4 victory over the Crimson Hawks' team, which entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed.
 
Slippery Rock's top singles team now turns their collective focus to Monday's championship match in which they will face No. 4 seed Kayla Dean and Roisin Murphy of Mercyhurst University.
 
A win by Martin Lopez and del Val del Toro would mark the second time in the last three seasons that a Rock doubles team has won a PSAC title- Lois Page and Viola Lugmayr also won the event in 2019-20.
 
So far this season, del Val del Toro and Martin Lopez have partnered to produce a nearly flawless 5-1 record with their only loss coming in the quarterfinals of Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Region Championships.
 
Sunday was an all-around great day for del Val del Toro as she also defeated teammate Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez in a tightly-contested match during quarterfinals of the PSAC singles championship 6-2, 4-6, 10-5. However, her singles run ended in the semifinals as she lost a close contest to IUP's Karlin Kirchtag 6-2, 7-5.
 
Martin Lopez also competed in Sunday's singles bracket as the only unseeded athlete to advance to the quarterfinals before falling to Joanna Stralka of Indiana 6-3, 6-0.
 
Monday's doubles championship match is scheduled for a 9 a.m. start in Bloomsburg.
