Rock drops three-set decision at Seton Hill

The Slippery Rock volleyball team lost in three sets (25-23, 25-15, 25-16) on the road to Seton Hill Saturday in PSAC West competition.

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost in three sets on the road to Seton Hill University Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division competition.
 
The Rock lost a narrow first set to the Griffins, 25-23, before Seton Hill was able to close out the home win with 25-15 and 25-16 wins over the second and third sets.
 
Erica Selfridge posted a double-double of 11 kills on a match-high .364 attack percentage to go with 11 digs to lead The Rock. Callie Chevalier just missed out on a double-digit kill outing as well, finishing with nine kills and one block.
 
Rounding out SRU's attack was Abigail Koeller and Alayna Chizmar with five and three kills, respectively.
 
Abigail Nigon tallied four more blocks (two solo / two assisted) to push her team season-high total to 67. Koeller also added a pair of blocks as well.
 
In addition to guiding The Rock's offense with 17 assists, Jaeden Yost also served two aces and made eight digs. Koeller and Kate Lachendro matched Yost with eight digs apiece while Maria Lucas added SRU's other ace.
 
SRU trailed by eight points at 12-4 to start the first set before battling all the way back to cut its deficit to just one point (24-23) before Seton Hill was able to fight off The Rock's comeback bid with a 25-23 win.
 
Seton Hill opened another sizable lead in the second set of 12-5 that was enough to hold off SRU for in a 25-15 win.
 
The Rock and Griffins traded points early on in the final set, but with SHU leading 10-9 Seton Hill took seven of the next eight points to pull away en route for an eventual 25-16 match-deciding victory.
 
For the match, Seton Hill held edges over The Rock in kills (52-32), attack percentage (.339-.153), digs (60-43) while SRU had five total blocks to the Griffins' four. Both teams served four aces.
