GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss on the road to Seton Hill University Wednesday.

SRU's overall record moves to 5-9-2 and its PSAC West mark becomes 3-5-1 while SHU improves to 7-8-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the division. Wednesday's loss officially eliminates The Rock from PSAC Tournament contention while the Griffins clinched a spot in the conference tournament with the win.

Slippery Rock's scoring was produced by
Noel Williamson, who netted his first collegiate goal of the year off a
Harry Griffin assist, his second of the season. Â

Williamson and
Arturo Pla Hernandis each placed two shots on goal while Griffin,
Ryan John,
Nathan Kortyna and
Joe Skillicorn each tallied one on-target shot for The Rock.

Hossam Aly made eight saves for SRU over 90 minutes of action while surrendering three goals.

The Griffins were able to open the game's scoring just 15 minutes into the first half as Linden Anton Dupont placed a rebounded shot past Aly for an early 1-0 SHU lead. The Seton Hill defense then took over, limiting SRU to just two off-target shots before halftime.

Coming out of the break, the SHU offense got off to a quick start once more when Amos Fletcher was able to land a ball off the crossbar and into the goal in the 52nd minute. Less than eight minutes later at 60:37, Anton Dupont tallied his second goal of the game on a cross-goal shot, extending the Griffins' lead to 3-0.

Slippery Rock avoided the shutout in the 81st minute when Griffin fired a shot that was deflected off SHU goalkeeper Nathaniel Huff before Williamson collected the rebound and scored, cutting the deficit to 3-1.Â

SRU scattered four additional shots over the final nine minutes of play, but to no avail as the Seton Hill defense blocked three and Huff saved the fourth en route to a 3-1 Seton Hill win.

For the game, Slippery Rock led Seton Hill in corners (6-5) while SHU held advantages over The Rock in total shots (19-17) and shots on goal (11-8).

Slippery Rock returns home to host No. 2 Mercyhurst University 12 p.m. Saturday at James Egli Field on Senior Day. Prior to the game, SRU will honor its eight-member senior class for their contributions to the program over their careers.
