Rock falls 1-0 to Daemen

The Slippery Rock men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to non-conference opponent Daemen Saturday in Amherst, New York.

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team fell 1-0 to non-conference opponent Daemen University Saturday in Amherst, New York.
 
The loss moves The Rock's overall record to 5-8-2 while the Wildcats improve to 6-6-3 overall this season. Slippery Rock has now finished its non-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference portion of the 2022 schedule.
 
Slippery Rock and Daemen opened the contest with a scoreless first half. The Rock and Wildcats played an evenly matched first 45 minutes as each team was only able to take three total shots before halftime.
 
Coming out of the break, SRU and Daemen traded shots through the first 16 minutes of the second half. At 61:23 the Wilcats would be awarded a penalty kick that Pontus Lundin landed out of reach of Hossam Aly to give Daemen a 1-0 lead.
 
Following the penalty kick, The Rock and the Wildcats resumed their defensive standoff with each team producing four total shots with two on goal each.
 
Despite possessing the ball for the final three minutes of the contest and Samuel Hillman taking the last shot of the match, SRU was unable to find the equalizer en route to a 1-0 Daemen win.
 
The Rock's eight shots of the contest were compiled by Hillman (1), Alex Plimmer (2), Topher Garcia (1), Luke Gildea (1), Arturo Pla Hernandis (1), Ramses Minaya (1) and Max Murphy (1). Garcia, Gildea, Pla Hernandis, Plimmer and Murphy all placed on shot on goal apiece.
 
SRU goalkeepers Aly and Adam Davies split time equally over the match with Davies playing the opening 45 minutes before giving way to Aly, who made three saves and allowed one goal, in the second half.
 
For the game, Slippery Rock led Daemen in shots on goal (5-4) while the Wildcats held advantages in total shots (10-8) and corners (5-4).
 
SRU remains on the road for a must-win PSAC West contest at Seton Hill University 1 p.m. Oct. 26. Earlier this season, SRU fell to the Griffins 3-1 at James Egli Field.
