BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Slippery Rock University women's tennis standouts Gabriela del Val del Toro and Nuria Martin Lopez earned runner-up honors in the doubles tournament at the 2022-23 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Individual Championships Monday at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on the campus of Bloomsburg University.
 
Martin Lopez and del Val del Toro lost a hard-fought title match to eventual champions Kayla Dean and Roisin Murphy of Mercyhurst, 8-4.
 
Monday's result capped off a great run for The Rock's doubles team that saw the duo, which entered the championships as the No. 3 seed, earn three consecutive victories over the first two days of the event to advance to the final match.
 
Included in the victories by del Val del Toro and Martin Lopez were wins over Sam Passmore / Montana Catalan (East Stroudsburg, 8-0), Maria Ojeda / Noelle Htwar (Millersville, 8-5) and No. 2 seed Katy Graydon / Lydia Vlachou (Indiana, 8-4).
 
In addition to The Rock's doubles success at this year's PSAC Individual Championships, del Val del Toro also made the semifinals of the singles tournament with teammates Martin Lopez and Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez advancing to the quarterfinals in the bracket as well in what was a great all-around performance by SRU's veteran trio.
 
Slippery Rock will once again make the familiar trip to Bloomsburg when it finishes the fall portion of its 2022-23 schedule this weekend at the BU Invitational.
