SLIPPERY ROCK Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team suffered a 66-45 loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opponent California University (Pa.) Saturday at Morrow Field House.

With the loss The Rock's record moves to 10-6 overall this season and 5-5 in the PSAC West while Cal U improves to 11-3 overall and 6-3 in conference play.Â

SRU's efforts were led by
Jamiyah Johnson who claimed her 15th double-double of the year, this time compiling 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Deleah Gibson (8 point, 2 rebounds),
Kennedy Middleton (7 points, 9 rebounds) and
Isabellah Middleton (7 points, 3 rebounds) rounded out The Rock's leaders.

The Rock jumped out to an energized start to open the contest going 3-of-4 from long range as Gibson (2) and
Isabellah Middleton (1) drained three straight 3-pointers giving SRU a 15-8 lead with 3:57 left to play in the first quarter.

However, The Rock would see their seven-point lead depleted as Cal U went on an 8-0 run to close the first ahead 19-17 before outscoring SRU 11-6 in the second quarter for the eventual 30-23 advantage going into the halftime break.

Slippery Rock was unable to re-group from the halftime deficit over the remainder of the game as the Vulcans went on to extend its lead to as many as 22 points en route to the 66-45 win.

Slippery Rock concluded the contest shooting 31.4 percent (16-of-51) from the floor, 25 percent (4-of-16) from long range and for the first time this season a perfect 100 percent (9-of-9) from the foul line. Despite the loss, The Rock out rebounded Cal U 49-36 for the game while claiming an even 12-12 mark in second chance points.

As a team, the Vulcans shot 35.4 percent (28-of-79) overall, 16.7 percent (5-of-30) from 3-point range and 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the charity stripe. Cal U proved its dominance on defense holding a 30-6 advantage in turnovers forced over The Rock while scoring 40 of its points from turnovers compared to SRU's two. The Vulcans also led in fast break points (25-7) and points in the paint (38-22).

The Rock takes a two-game road trip first against Gannon University 5:30 p.m. Jan. 31 followed by a game at Clarion University 5:30 p.m. Feb 2.
