The Slippery Rock women’s basketball team fell short in a 76-66 overtime loss against PSAC East opponent Millersville Wednesday.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team fell short in a 76-66 overtime loss against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division opponent Millersville University Wednesday.

Slippery Rock suffered its second consecutive loss as its record now moves to 10-5 overall and 5-4 in the PSAC while Millersville improves to 3-13 overall and 2-9 in the conference. SRU is now 2-1 in overtime games this season.

The Rock's scoring efforts were led by Jamiyah Johnson who collected her 14th double-double of the season with 23 points, 18 rebounds and four assists. Slippery Rock's other double-digit scorers included Deleah Gibson and Anyah Curd with 10 apiece.

Kennedy Middleton nearly tallied a double-double of her own with nine points, nine rebounds and two steals while Bella Long scored eight points and recorded four rebounds in her first career start. Rounding out SRU's point scorers Kaylin Venick and Jordan Kaufman with three apiece off the bench.

Slippery Rock led for the majority of the night, but its six-point fourth-quarter lead disappeared as the Marauders pulled even with The Rock at 49-49 with 4:56 to play in regulation.

The remainder of the fourth quarter saw the two teams trade baskets with Slippery Rock eventually pulling out to a three-point advantage with just 11 seconds to play. However, SRU was unable to close out the victory as Makiah Shaw drained a last second 3-pointer to force overtime. Shaw's 3-pointer was Millersville's only 3-pointer of the night as the Maruauders went 1-of-16 from long range.

Millersville scored the first basket of overtime to take a lead it would never relinquish as Lauren Lister proceeded to spearhead the Marauders efforts for the remainder of the game by scoring 11 of its 18 points of the period. The Rock were able to only score eight points during overtime en route to a 76-66 Millersville victory.

As a team, SRU shot 38.5 percent (20-of-52) from the floor, 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from long range and 80.8 percent (21-of-26) from the foul line. Despite the loss, Slippery Rock held advantages in second-chance points (9-2) while also holding a 45-30 advantage in rebounds.

Millersville ended the night shooting 39.7 percent (27-of-68) from the floor, 6.3 percent (1-of-16) from 3-point range and 61.8 percent (21-of-34) from the charity stripe. The Marauders committed 16 turnovers while forcing SRU into a detrimental and season-high 33 miscues of its own which MU was able to turn into 36 points. Lister finished the contest with 30 points.
