Rock powers back for 86-84 double-overtime win at Fairmont State

A career-high 27 points from Daeja Quick and a 26-point, 23-rebound performance by Jamiyah Johnson lifted Slippery Rock to an 86-84 double overtime victory at Fairmont State Sunday.

FAIRMONT, W. Va. - A career-high 27 points from Daeja Quick and a 26-point, 23-rebound performance by Jamiyah Johnson lifted Slippery Rock University to an 86-84 double overtime victory at Fairmont State University Sunday.
 
Johnson's 23 rebounds mark the second most rebounds in a single-game in program history at SRU.
 
Rounding out Slippery Rocks leading scorers were Isabellah Middleton (14 points, 8 rebounds) and Kennedy Middleton (10 points, 8 rebounds). The Middleton's accounted for over half of Slippery Rocks takeaways making nine of its 15 steals.
 
With the win The Rock improves to 8-3 overall while Fairmont State moves to 7-4 overall for the season overall. SRU is now 2-0 in overtime games this season.
 
SRU closed the first half trailing Fairmont State by 13 points (39-26) before outscoring the Fighting Falcons 19-11 in the third quarter and trimming their lead to as little as one point (46-45) with 5:10 left to play in the third.
 
Trailing 61-51 with 4:55 left to play, The Rock rallied by ending regulation on a 14-4 run to tie the game at 65-65 and force overtime.
 
While SRU forced the Falcons to shoot just 1-for-4 from the field in the first overtime period, the Falcons, were able to convert all eight of their free throw attempts. Conversely, Johnson and Kennedy Middleton scored four points each with Quick adding two points for The Rock as well to send the contest into a second overtime with the score even at 75-75.
 
Through another added five minutes, SRU and FSU traded the lead four times. With just eight seconds left and the score tied 84-84, Johnson drew a foul that sent her to the free throw line where she nailed both foul shots lifting SRU to an 86-84 lead. Following Johnson's second free throws, FSU guard Sierra Kotchman drove the length of the floor, but was unable to get a desperation shot off as SRU completed the road comeback.
 
As a team, Slippery Rock shot 40.2 percent (35-of-87) from the floor, 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from long range and 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the charity stripe.
 
The Rock held advantages over Fairmont State in points off turnovers (21-16), second chance points (19-11) points in the paint (56-32) and fast break points (14-5) The Rock also outrebounded FSU 56-42. Both teams struggled with turnovers as Slippery Rock made 23 miscues while forcing Fairmont State into 25.
 
The Fighting Falcons ended the game shooting 37.7 percent (26-of-69) from the floor, 32 percent (8-of-25) from 3-point range and 70.6 percent (24-of-34) from the foul line. The duo of Alyssa DeAngelo (26) and Kotchman (20) accounted for over half of FSU's points.
 
The Rock plays their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division contest of the season hosting the University of Pitt-Johnstown 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Morrow Field House.
