GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team recorded its fourth consecutive victory in a 4-1 win over Seton Hill University at Dick Sporting Goods Field
Wednesday afternoon.
A lightening delay stalled play less than 15 minutes into the second period for 40 minutes, but The Rock were able to overcome the halt in play and secure the victory
With the win, SRU improves to 4-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. Seton Hill falls to 2-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play. Wednesday's win marks The Rock's first season that it has remained undefeated through five matches since 2008.
SRU's offensive attack was led by
Rachel Edge who finished with two goals and an assist, marking her fifth straight game with a goal this season. Edge now has a PSAC-high six goals in 2021.
Kayla Swope collected a goal and pair of assists as well while
Georgia Nagucki netted a goal of her own.
Goalkeeper
Emma Yoder posted another strong showing, making three saves and only allowing one goal in 90 minutes played.
The stellar SRU offensive attack got off to a strong start as Edge received a nicely placed ball from Swope to net her first goal of the afternoon putting The Rock up 1-0 in the 20th minute.
The Griffins struck back with less than five minutes left in the first period when Marissa Steck assisted a Mikaela Small goal to even the score 1-1 going into the break.
Coming out of halftime, The Rock offense responded to the Griffins' score by netting three unanswered goals, the first coming from Swope less than five minutes into the second half on an Edge cross for what was her fourth goal of the season.
Nagucki joined the scoring efforts by rocketing a shot of her own past goalkeeper Grace Kenyon on a free kick to extend the SRU lead to 3-1 in the 58th minute.
Edge put a cap on the 4-1 road victory with a header past Kenyon off a ball Swope sent bouncing over the heads of the Griffins back line.
The Rock's offensive surge resulted in a strong lead in shots (12-6) and shots on goal (7-4). Seton Hill led in corner kicks (8-4).
SRU returns to action when it hosts Mercyhurst University at James Egli Field 12 p.m. Saturday.
