MEET PREVIEW
Collier is one of 24 women that have been accepted into the field for the javelin at the Trials. The field will be split into two flights of 12 women each for the qualifying round Friday, with Collier set to throw in the second flight. Each thrower will get three throws and the top 12 performers will make up the field of 12 women that advance to the final Saturday at 5:30 p.m. local (8:30 p.m. EST).

Collier is the only Division II female thrower in the country to make it to the Olympic Trials in any event and did so after dominating the NCAA Division II National Championships to win the individual title by more than 17 feet. Her season-best throw of 53.18 meters shattered her own SRU record and the all-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record and is the eighth-best throw in Division II history.

Collier will find herself throwing in the second flight Friday, where she will be joined by one of the best javelin throwers in U.S. history in three-time Olympian Kara Winger. Winger's career-best of 66.67 meters was the American record until this May, when Maggie Malone set the new American record at 66.82 meters. Malone will throw in the first flight. Malone and Winger are the only two throwers in the field that have met the Olympic standard of 64.00 meters.

In order to make the U.S. Olympic team, an athlete must finish in the top three at the Trials and meet the Olympic Standard of 64.00 meters.

Collier is one of eight women in the second flight and 15 total women in the field that will be representing NCAA institutions. All 14 of the other collegiate throwers come from Division I programs, including Penn State, Nebraska, Auburn, Stanford, Missouri, Mississippi State and the University of North Carolina.

The top of the field is likely to distance itself in the competition as only four women have thrown over 60.0 meters and only five women in the field have a career-best over 58.00 meters, but the battle for the remaining spots in the final should be tight.

Collier's career-best of 53.42 meters ranks 15th in the field of 24 throwers, but her seed mark is just shy of a number of throwers seeded directly ahead of her. The four throwers seeded 11th to 14th have career bests between 53.52 meters and 55.47 meters.

HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF AT SRU
Collier will be the first track and field athlete to wear a Slippery Rock uniform at the U.S. Olympic Trials since fellow national champion javelin thrower Karyn McCready competed in the 2004 Trials. McCready held the SRU program record for nearly two decades before Collier broke that record twice this spring.

RESULTS AND RECAP
A complete recap of Collier's performance will be posted to www.RockAthletics.com following the conclusion of the competition Friday evening.
