Rock splits doubleheader against Edinboro

Cami Fisk recorded a walk-off RBI-single to lead the Slippery Rock softball team to a 2-1 game one victory to secure a split of its PSAC Western Division doubleheader against Edinboro Friday at the SRU Softball Complex.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Cami Fisk recorded a walk-off RBI-single to lead the Slippery Rock University softball to a 2-1 victory in game one to secure a split of its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division doubleheader against Edinboro University Friday at the SRU Softball Complex.

The Fighting Scots (6-8, 6-8 PSAC West) earned a 3-1 game two win over The Rock (4-16, 4-16 PSAC West) to salvage a split of the twin bill.

Erin Gardner led the SRU offense on the day, going 3-for-7 with a double and two runs scored while Anna Villies and Alexa Guglielmino each tallied a double in game one. Additionally, Fisk and Leah Vith added an RBI apiece to round out Slippery Rock's top performers against Edinboro.

Chloe Sharman (1-2, 2.97 ERA) was solid as a reliever, yielding just one run on three hits in addition to striking out four over 3.2 combined innings Friday.

Game One: Slippery Rock 2, Edinboro 1
Slippery Rock parlayed a dominant pitching performance from the pairing of Kelsi Anderson (1-7, 3.00 ERA) and Sharman with a seventh-inning rally culminating in a walk-off RBI-single by Fisk to secure the 2-1 victory in game one.

Guglielmino and Villies led The Rock offense in game one by picking up one double apiece while Gardner went 1-for-4 with two runs scored. Fisk registered the lone RBI on the day for Slippery Rock on the forementioned game-winning single.

Anderson lowered her season ERA to 3.00 after not allowing an earned run in a start for the second time this season before being replaced by Sharman is the seventh. She went on to work out of a two-on, no-out jam in her inning of work.

The Fighting Scot lineup was led by the duo of Cheyenne Shughart and Lauren Gierlak in game one with two hits apiece while Maya Kozup added her first triple of the season.

In the circle, Macy Sral (4-3, 4.00 ERA) yielded two runs, one being earned, on seven hits while striking out four in a complete-game effort.

SRU jumped out to a 1-0 first-inning lead when Gardner came into score on a passed ball, but Edinboro quickly tied the game with a run of its own in the third when a throwing error allowed Nya Adams to score after stealing third base.
The game remained tied for the next four innings after both teams combined to leave 11 runners on base.

In the home half of the seventh, Gardner led off the frame with a bunt single before moving to second on a Villies walk. Two batters later, Fisk lined a one-out RBI-single into center field, scoring Gardner to secure the 2-1 win for The Rock.

Game Two: Edinboro 3, Slippery Rock 1
Edinboro scored two runs in the fifth, added an insurance run in the seventh and fended off a brief rally in the sixth from SRU to secure the doubleheader split with a 3-1 game two win.

Gardner led Slippery Rock in game two by going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Vith added a double and an RBI in a 1-for-2 showing at the plate. Villies also reached base via a single in the nightcap.

Rock game two starter Claire Zimmerman (2-7, 4.68 ERA) allowed just two runs on three hits and two walks over 4.1 innings before giving way to Sharman who pitched the final 2.2 frames, yielding one run on three hits in addition to striking out three.

Gierlak tallied two hits, two RBI and a run scored to lead the Edinboro offense while Maura Pasquale added a double and an RBI. Fighting Scot starting pitcher Lauren Bush (2-1, 5.65 ERA) turned in a complete-game effort allowing just one run on four hits while striking out three.

Gierlak lined a two-RBI double into the left center field gap in the fifth to give Edinboro its first lead of the day.

Slippery Rock cut its deficit to 2-1 in the sixth when Vith picked up an RBI-double of her own, scoring Gardner from third. However, the SRU comeback effort would be cut short when Edinboro added an insurance run in the seventh and Busch retired five of the final six batters she faced to seal the 3-1 game two victory.

GAME NOTES
After starting both games against Friday, Guglielmino has tied Katie Kaiser (2013-16) for the longest consecutive games started streak in program history at 150 straight starts. Should the senior start game one against Edinboro on Saturday, she would hold the longest such streak in program history.
