SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University football senior wide receiver
Henry Litwin and senior defensive end
Chad Kuhn were named as first team All-Americans when the Associated Press announced the 2021 Division II AP All-America team Wednesday.
Â
Litwin and Kuhn are both repeat selections to the AP All-America team after both being recognized as second team honorees in 2019.
Â
This marks the second postseason All-America honor this fall for Litwin, who was also named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America team that came out last week.
Â
Litwin is one of just three receivers in the country to earn first team All-America honors, while Kuhn is one of just four defensive linemen to be named to the first team. In total, six receivers and eight defensive linemen were named as AP All-Americans this fall.
Â
Slippery Rock joins Notre Dame (Ohio) as the only two teams from Super Region One with two selections to the first team. Cal U had one first team honoree and one second team selection to mark the only other team from the region with two AP All-Americans.
Â
Litwin, who is the only receiver in the country to be a national finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, played through a collarbone injury all season and still grabbed 67 passes for 1,042 yards and 13 touchdowns this fall on the way to setting the SRU career records for receptions (221), yards (3,392) and touchdowns (42).
Â
Over the last three seasons, Litwin had more receiving yards and touchdown catches than any other player in Division II, averaging 74 catches, 1,131 yards and 14 touchdowns per season after taking his first offensive snaps as a sophomore.
Â
The AP All-America honor is one more in a growing list of postseason accolades for Litwin. Last week, he was recognized in Las Vegas as the only Division II member of the National Football Foundation's National Scholar-Athlete Class for 2021, which came with an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship from Fidelity Investments. Earlier this fall, he picked up first team All-PSAC and All-Region honors for the second year in a row and was named as a first team Academic All-District selection for the third season in a row.
Â
Kuhn, who was one of just three defensive linemen in the country to be named as a national finalist for the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award, finished his senior season with 9.0 sacks, 11.0 tackles for loss and a career-high four forced fumbles to go along with 52 total tackles.
Â
Over his four-year career, Kuhn racked up 29.0 sacks, 45.0 tackles for loss and seven forced fumbles. His 29.0 sacks rank third all-time at SRU and No. 3 among all active Division II players currently and his 45.0 tackles for loss rank fourth all-time at The Rock. Like Litwin, Kuhn has also earned first team All-PSAC and All-Region honors this fall for the second straight season.
Â
Litwin and Kuhn helped Slippery Rock to three straight PSAC West titles, three trips to the NCAA Playoffs, two trips to the national quarterfinals and one trip to the national semifinals over the last four seasons. The Rock averaged more than 10 wins per season during their four-year careers with 41 wins from 2017-21.
