LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University receiver
Jermaine Wynn Jr. and kicker
DJ Opsatnik were recognized as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Athletes of the Week for their performances in The Rock's 38-26 win over No. 3 Cal U Saturday.
Â
Wynn picks up his second weekly honor of the season and his first Offensive Athlete of the Week award, while Opsatnik is recognized as the Special Teams Athlete of the Week for the first time this fall.
Â
Wynn, who earned the special teams award once earlier this season, grabbed 10 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday to help lead The Rock's offense to a dominant showing against the nation's No. 4 overall defense.
Cal U entered the game ranked ninth in the nation in passing defense with opponents averaging just 136.1 passing yards and 0.75 touchdowns per game. Wynn topped those numbers on his own and was part of an SRU passing attack that racked up 466 yards and four touchdowns on the day.
Â
With more than 400 passing yards in each of the last two weeks, Slippery Rock has moved up to No. 1 in Division II in passing offense and is averaging 348.8 passing yards per game through 10 weeks this fall.
Â
Opsatnik was perfect in the kicking game for the fourth straight week and scored eight of The Rock's 38 total points. He went 5-for-5 on PAT kicks and booted a 31-yard field goal in the victory.
Â
Over the last month, Opsatnik is a perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and 19-of-19 on PAT kicks. He has racked up a total of 66 points this fall to rank second on the team behind only
Henry Litwin (72) for the most points.
Â
Slippery Rock locked up the PSAC West title for the third straight year, the sixth time in the last eight years and the seventh time in the last 10 years with the win over Cal U. The Rock will now turn their focus to the PSAC Championship this Saturday at No. 19 Kutztown, which is a rematch of the 2019 league title game played between the same teams at the same location. Kickoff is set for 12:05 p.m. Saturday.
