Rock falls in three sets to Clarion

The Slippery Rock volleyball team lost a PSAC West match to Clarion Friday in three sets 25-7, 25-15, 25-14 at Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division match to Clarion University Friday in three sets at Morrow Field House.
 
Clarion (18-7, 10-3 PSAC West) picked up the win over The Rock (5-22, 1-12 PSAC West) with set victories of 25-7, 25-15, 25-14.
 
Lauren Crytzer had a team-high three blocks to go with a pair of kills. The three blocks pushed her team season-best total to 55 rejections. Aiding Crytzer's efforts up front with two blocks was Stephanie O'Donnell while the trio of Alayna Chizmar, Tiara Tegue and Erica Selfridge all added one block assist apiece.  
 
Selfridge provided The Rock with a team-high four kills followed by Chizmar with three, Crytzer at two and the duo of O'Donnell and Kate Lachendro at one each.
 
Lachendro also made 11 digs and passed out three assists while Selfridge just missed finishing in double-digits in digs as well with nine on the night all the while serving one ace.
 
Taylor Fellers, who registered four assists, also served a pair of aces and made six digs. Lauren Weber rounded out The Rock's top contributors with five digs.
 
Slippery Rock could never quite find its rhythm Friday night as SRU finished the contest with a -.176 attack percentage and allowing nine Golden Eagle aces while Clarion amassed 13 total blocks and registered 36 kills on a .273 attack percentage.  
 
Clarion was led by the duo of Cassidy Snider and Julia Piccolino who combined for 21 kills. Alyson Peters and Lauren Aichinger each finished the match with five blocks (one solo / four assisted).
 
SRU will look to rebound from Friday's match when it hosts Indiana University (Pa.) 1 p.m. Saturday on Senior Day at Morrow Field House. Prior to the match, SRU will recognize its 2021 senior class of Crytzer, Teague, Weber and Cacey Cook for their contributions to the program over their careers.
