LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Slippery Rock University men's basketball standout
Frankie Hughes was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Defensive Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Hughes earned the weekly distinction after helping to lead The Rock to a non-conference victory over Penn State University Fayette and PSAC win against regional power East Stroudsburg University.

Over two games last week, Hughes averaged 3.0 steals, 1.0 blocks and 1.5 defensive rebounds a contest in addition to racking up 18.0 points per game thanks in no small part to seven made 3-pointers on the offensive end of the floor.

After opening the week with 20 points and a pair of steals in Slippery Rock's 101-52 victory over Penn State Fayette, Hughes played a pivotal role in The Rock's 81-73 win against East Stroudsburg as Hughes made four steals and blocked a pair of shots all the while scoring 16 points in what was The Rock's first win over ESU since the 2012-13 season.

In four games this season, Hughes, a graduate transfer from Cleveland, Ohio, Â has averaged 17.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

Slippery Rock will take a three-game winning streak into Saturday's in-region game at the University of Charleston.
