Powered by a 24-point, 21-rebound showing from Jamiyah Johnson, the Slippery Rock women’s basketball team earned a 69-59 win Saturday at Malone.

CANTON, Ohio - Powered by a 24-point, 21-rebound showing from Jamiyah Johnson, the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team earned a 69-59 win Saturday at Malone University.

With the win, The Rock improves their overall record to 3-1 while Malone moves to an identical 3-1 mark to open the 2021-22 season as well.

Johnson tallied her fourth-straight double-double since wearing the Green and White on 24 points and 21 rebounds over the Pioneers. The 21 rebounds are the third highest single-game total in SRU history. Johnson is the first Rock player dating back to 2002 to have acquired a double-double with 20 or more points and rebounds. 11 of her rebounds came on the offensive glass.

Johnson has now collected the top three highest rebounding performances among the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with her 21 rebounds being the highest.

Accompanying Johnson in double-digit scoring was Daeja Quick with 15 points in addition to passing out a team-high four assists. Johnson and Quick combined to shoot 15-of-28 from the field overall

Rounding out SRU's point scorers were Kennedy Middleton and Isabellah Middleton with eight each, Anyah Curd with six followed by Deleah Gibson and Kelley McKnight with four apiece.

Defensively, Johnson and Curd combined for four of SRU's five blocks with each player tallying two rejections.

SRU led for the near entirety of the contest as The Rock held the advantage over the Pioneers for 36:17 of a possible 40 minutes.

Slippery Rock ended the first half shooting 17-of-34 (.500) from the floor. The Rock dominated the offensive end of the floor, going on an 11-0 run in the first quarter. SRU extended its lead to as many as 20 (41-21) with less than two minutes to play in the second en route to an eventual 41-25 halftime lead.

Johnson and Quick accounted for 26 of SRU's 41 points entering the third quarter. The Pioneers put up a second-half fight, cutting The Rock's lead to as little as seven in the final moments of the third quarter. However, Quick hit a 3-pointer with just four seconds left in the third to send SRU into the fourth leading by 10 points at 54-44.

Slippery Rock would never relinquish its lead over the final 10 minutes as SRU was content to trade baskets with Malone on the way to its third double-digit win of the year.

As a team, Slippery Rock shot 45 percent (27-of-60) from the floor, 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from 3-point range and 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the foul line.
